I thought Ferrari vowed to make the cars more reliable, i guess breaking down every 3000k miles instead of every 1000k miles is a milestone for them! :icon_no:

Perhaps in 2010 , they can start making there cars go a whopping 7500 miles before breaking down! I thought we were in the 21st century where motors can run to 100K before the first major tune up, besides oil changes, etc., obviously Ferrari is not!

 

Since when does anyone expect a ferrari to last all those miles?

Its practically a race car in street trim, the more hp you put out the less your engine will be plain and simple.

The engineering perspective is those engines endure a TON of stress, its not like they're made of glass.

 

I think i can vouch in since i own one.
During that years (1996-2005) Fiat was in a very deep crisis, actually deeper than now. Ferrari is part of that group so had do adequate their standards to the new production levels. For instance, the camshaft was not a forged single piece but a multi piece one. EVERY ferrari of that age had\has loads of problems, no exception. Even the early f430 suffered from high fragility\bad parts. Luckily enough, it now seems that this time is coming up to an end.
I personally own a 21years old ferrari with 22000km on the odo and the only thing i had to change, a part from the distribution (age issues) and the regular turbo maintenance etc were the silicon manifolds that cracked. Mine is not even a large production model, it is one of the 308 GTB Turbo ever produced.
You also have to consider that if you bring it to a ferrari stealership the price will grow up but an annual service costs, if done outside Ferrari's shops, less than 1000$.
Take the 550 maranello as the shitty f355 etc anyway, not much of a performance car, more for showrooms.

 

So is a Vette, but you don't see them breaking down every 3k miles or less.
And the Z-06 has 505HP, more HP than the,F355 F360, F430, F40 , 550. My buddy has 22k miles on his Z-06 , all he has done is change the oil, tires, and brakes .
So what is Ferrari excuse?

 

My brother had an 02, thing only needed oil changes and tires. Sold it with 50K +, and it got 25+ mpg.

 

My biggest gripe is Ferrari's crappy warranty.

I mean Mazda stands behind our 8 with a better warranty than Ferrari!

For 200K I'd expect to have a service plan similar to what BMW does for the first 3 years. Geez even Chevy's Corvette ZR1, which is comparable in performance to the F430, has a better warranty and lower maintenance cost.

I think Ferrari's are much nicer in terms of styling and materials etc. than the Chevy so I can see paying more for them but mechanically they should be willing to stand behind their work with a better warranty at that price point.

Step up Ferrari and take care of your customers!!

 

Even the people who afford Ferrari, all keep the mileage low and drive them very little.

Might as well just get a time share membership, pay no maintenance fees, and then drive Ferrari very little. Same thing.

 

This is why people like Jay Leno, or other intelligent, wealthy car owners would own their own garage and have their own personal mechanic. Then all of the sudden having 2 pro *** mechanics at $80k/year salary to maintain your 20+ cars doesn't seem too bad....

 

This is why you always lease any car over 90k

 

I agree....my C6 is 'mildly' upgraded from the 430hp, and will be gaining another 40 in the spring...right now I have around 480-490 to the crank...and have had zero issues with my car...I know many turbo'd and supercharged C6's pushing 620rwhp and guess what...no breakage...and these people actually drive their car.

 

if money wasnt an issue, i would drop everything and head to the nearest ferrari dealer for my 430 scuderia and 599 GTB(gotta have a daily driver). Its hard for poor people to comprehend but the pure satisfaction you would feel from driving would far outweigh the cost of ownership.... again, this is if I had the money. Otherwise, i'll just have to settle for an nsx project in a few years.
