I took my car for a Change of Tail pipe and they took out half of the Exhaust ..

Went under the car and saw the heat shield that they install during the recall.

Its a semi circle curve plate install between the Muffler and the car.

I found out that the same type of heat is already there between the whole pipe and the center console.

So I guess Mazda has already take precaution by installing a heat shield over the whole pipe and the only part they did not do is a heat shield plate over the muffler., and they are doing it now for this recall..

So the heat shield has now cover the entire exhaust pipe system.

Although it does shield off some heat. but its still a piece of metal plate and heat will still be conducted on this plate and pass on to the center console. (no insulation between the plate and car)

change of tail pipe is aesthetic? or performance related?

JUST for the looks, . nothing got to do with performance..

It only cost me S$130 for a larger diameter tailpipe. How to get performance with S$130??

Heard from a dealer that there were cases of the fuel tank being deformed from the heat..

This is to the owers who has got their car from PIs.

Have PIs resolve the recall issuses?

Care to give a little updates?

Cause mine seems to take a little long getting back.

Cheers.

I have sent my ride to the designated workshop (Sportswagon Auto @ Ubi) for inspection.

I was told by the the mechanic that after the inspection, they will feedback to Mazda Japan. When asked about whether my ride need to replace any parts? The answer is no need!

Is this so? juz visual inspection & able to determine whether to replace parts? Is is a compulsory to replace the parts that are mentioned in the recall? What if dun give way now but later, how? I am puzzled really puzzled!

Btw....my ride is from PI (HY) & with the (1) & (2) problem.. any bros ride are from HY and what is your outcome? How about those from other PIs.....

Not every car needs to have parts replaced... you have to check your vin number.. Some cars need parts and heat shield, some cars just need heat shield. I think they are checking for cracks and welding quality..

One important question you guys never ask whether this heat-shield (in my case) is FOC ? She said it's a recall so it should be Free Of Charge ... phew ...

But I asked another upset question ... how much is the RX8 now and she said S$107XXX .... some more got cash rebate cry cry cry ...

Dun need to cry...... S$107XXX is w/o GST.......

Same go to me but i make a serious complain on the issue and they call me back n promised to install the heat shield in two weeks time once the parts arrive. When i send in my ride after received their recall letter i was vary pissed off with their mechanic, they just lift up my ride n just do a visual inspection that all n said everything is fine, wasting my time so in order to replaced the heat shield lodge a complain.

ya better complain. you saw takahashi's link on the remedies? quite thorough inspection i must say... some will involve reprogramming ECU and installing heat insulator on fuel tank
