Got my call from MM liao. Fixed appointment next Monday morning coz I'm out of town this week. Heard it's a 2-2.5 hr job to install a heat shield. Hopefully it will prevent my stuff from getting cooked in the center console after that.

Just called Hua Yang ( My PI ) and the agent told me they haven't heard of anything yet, but the agent also said if there was a recall, they would do it...

As mentioned, as JDM cars are deregistered in Japan, would the PIs be informed of the recall?

Also, who pays for the rectification costs? The PI or us?

The recall must start from Japan. The first owner (who bot and de-registered the vehicle) has to receive from Mazda Japan and then the process filter down. If the Jap exporter bo chap, it is up to the local PI to take up with them (which is unlikely). They will tell u nothing from Japan as in H*a Y**. U can show them everything and they will tell u to wait. So when u buy from a local PI, not only u take their reputation, maybe also their Jap partners. Maybe that explain the huge diff in price between PI.
If u do get a PI recall, all costs will be bore by them cos it is a 'manufacturing defect'.

Good luck!

a personal opinion and not a legal advice:

alternatively, i believed that if there is an official list of cars affected published by Mazda (with serial number or any unique identifier), you could point it to the PI and it should satisfy the part where "the PI becoming aware of the defect". the PI would then have the obligation to rectify the safety-related defects.

(Range of VIN numbers)
(Date of production) (Number of cars) (Remark)

SE3P-100063 to SE3P-100202
2003 February 14th to 2003 March 18th 140 (1)

SE3P-100203
2003 March 19th 1 (1)(2)

SE3P-100204 to SE3P-100206
2003 March 18th to 2003 March 18th 3 (1)

SE3P-100207 to SE3P-116064
2003 March 19th to 2003 December 27th 15,359 (1) (2)

SE3P-116065 to SE3P-123832
2004 January 6th to 2004 August 28th 7,767 (1)

SE3P-123833 to SE3P-132228
2004 September 2nd to 2005 June 30th 8,161 (1)

OK... I spoke to the PI and this their reply... Not all cars are effected... the ones whose cars have remarks (1) only have the heating problem.. the cars with remarks (1) and (2) have possible joint problems too.

PIs should contact owners in about 1 months with their recall letters.

I am just wondering who the smuck that got vin number 100203. He's the only one during that production. A custom job ??

Well late reply

The first (1) is the heat shield problem, the symptom is well decribed in the US thread. If you have any funny idling or high rev/high speed problem, then is the sensor being melted and you should get it look at ASAP. Otherwise, wait for recall/when you are due for service.

The second is a more important problem since the lower arm has a defected forging and will crack under pressure. In the button near the bottom is the diagram and they are hunting the batch labelled K4... if you have that, you need have that replaced.
I suspect that all the ones that cracked are from this batch, but if you have this batch does not mean it will crack - so just drive slowly to the dealer :D

That is all.

I just went for a track day and pushing the car very hard chasing the Porsche 911s... so I have count my lucky star for surviving.

Hi all,

Any guys who bought their cars from EZ Import? Understand they have closed down their PI business. Any way to address this issue then?

I called Garage R today (even though i did not buy my 8 from them) and they are aware of it and they said they are sending out letters to those that bought from them.
They will fix/service 8s bought from other PI, but must wait till they fix their customers one first. Garage R seems to be very on the ball..my PI still says he has no information abt it still.......

They already have started inspection but they have to take care of their own customers before reaching us. Insufficient resources. I called them today too.

Normally they are helpful if the parts are readily available. If it is some rare parts, then only their own 'cars' got serviced. I think the heat shield shouldnt be too diff so those whose PI closed shop already have somewhere to go :D :D

Probably all these defects are due to someone working in the Mazda factory who didn't do his job well and on 19th March he worked on only one car...
Must've taken half day or MC after morning tea break...
Anyone bought from Pinnacle?

Yeap ! Those who bought from Hua Yang are saved. I also contacted my sales rep. this morning and confirm recall and pending for parts arrival. Since this is worldwide problems may take sometime to get the parts arrive in Singapore.

One important question you guys never ask whether this heat-shield (in my case) is FOC ? She said it's a recall so it should be Free Of Charge ... phew ...

But I asked another upset question ... how much is the RX8 now and she said S$107XXX .... some more got cash rebate cry cry cry ...
