Factory Recall

Think Mazda has issued a recall for RX8s in Japan. Looks like only JDM are involved. For more info, please this out.

what does it mean?? Is Taka around to help translate this ??

There are two recalls in the Issues forum...one involves excessive heat build up (cause...engine is idled for extended periods at high revs...who does this? ) and requires an underbody inspection to ascertain possible thermal damage, the other recall is due to a possible lower suspension ball joint defect. Which is the one posted here from Japan? At any rate, I haven't received notice from MM for either of these.

No...cause mine's FE32 :) Looks like the MM buyers may have escaped both recalls since I can't find any info to indicate FE32 is affected.

Mr Bing 07-24-2005 04:18 AM

after translate it using alta vista babelfish.....it seems that it affects all RX8...it just that it doesnt comply or should i say "noncomformance state" ......
.... :(

You could be right...

Are FE32 built in Japan ??

darkelfin 07-24-2005 06:02 AM

no i think it only affects SE3P. but it's still very disturbing as it's frm all the way Feb 2003 to recent June 2005. almost all of us tat bought from PI will kana. :(

worst is, i don't think any of our PIs can do anything about it as once they export, they deregister our cars in japan and register it in sg. they can't do a recall as no way they'll ship it forth to japan and back again. guess we just have to rely on our warranty with the PIs when something crops up.

as for the high rev when engine cut, i think i've seen it happens alot of times on my 8. when i drive at high speeds and high revs, once i park my car and switch off my engine, when i step out of car i noticed that my ride's engine is still running. i think it is this running that raises the temperature of the lower body tat may short some of the circuits *scary* or cause crack in the ball joints. the recall is probably to upgrade the ECU to handle this issue. (my guess)

for those MM drivers, maybe u all can help us PIs ones ask MM whether there's a rectification process. thanks guys.

Thanx Dru8999 for posting; and thanx Lohsk for the call :D

Wonder how bad/serious this is

Maybe time to change car? ;) :p

You need not panic. I have bought 3 vehicles from PIs so far and have not any had bad experience when it comes to factory recall by manufacturers. I think they are required by LTA to notify buyers of the vehicles they sold and do the neccesary rectification as stipulated in the recall. This is not the first recall for PI's vehicle and my advice to you is to wait for the notification from your PI. As for your "engine" still running after you step out of your call, I think its the fan you are hearing which is common in the type of car that we own. Do correct me if I am wrong. Tks.

Mr Bing 07-24-2005 06:30 AM

ooo.....after the engine stop....its normal that there is something still running huh?....last month i went to one of the showroom, there was an 8 there. but i can feel the car was like vibrating or something...the said it was some sort like a cooling mechanism. i hope it's true though. i'll be getting my car this coming week. and i'm definitely gonna ask the mechanic to check the car thoroughly...,,,gonna ask their opinion regarding this...

Yup like dru said, our engine runs hot. Thus it was programmed such, so the fan will still comes on if the engine is still too hot even after the car has been shut off.

Ya man, but Euro spec. There seems to be a lot of confusion on which 8s have been affected by the recalls because there's not much info out there for the time being. Certainly no point in sweating it (it's hot enough here already :p ). If we get notices from our respective 8 dealers, we get 'em and can deal with 'em then, else just keep on drivin' :)

hoks 07-24-2005 09:43 AM

MM already called me to send car in regarding the overheat stuff. Nothing mentioned about the suspension though.

What is this new pic you have... tempting me with your RS. Too much man.

Fab 8 07-24-2005 09:45 AM

Check out the Technical forum - US cars (FE32) are affected. Not sure abt UK ones (ie MM cars). There are some discussions in the UK owners club, but it seems that they have not been notified of anything so far.

Thanks for the info hoks...guess I'll be waiting for my (re)call soon. It does indeed appear that all 8's are affected. Any PI buyers been notified yet?

:D my turn to spread the "poison"

Vanquish 07-24-2005 10:50 AM

Man!! Just got my car and this news... :(

Anyone got more info about the problems? i do find the car pretty hot even after a short drive and I thought it's normal...

lennon 07-24-2005 11:23 AM

I'm not concerned about the engine heat. But is there any of you guys found that the seat rail feels freaking hot? I was putting my hand under the seat picking dropped coins n touched the seat rail. I think it's about 80 degree C and apparently the insulation is not good enuff to prevent heat from the exhaust. DAmned!!!

M-ster 07-24-2005 08:43 PM

where can i find this JM1 FE17**...... numbers?
I can only see engine and chassis nos. that dont start with JM...
pointer please.
thanks

sqflyer 07-24-2005 10:40 PM

I think it's the VIN number... somewhere near the bottom of the windshield close to the bonnet.

took a friend for a ride last fri nite and she left her digital camera in the centre console and when she finally took it out. Boy, was it hot!

her comment was "well at least you have a built in food warmer now"

ngkenny 07-25-2005 02:42 AM

ok...just found out this from my SE from MM.

Not a matter of overheating. But going to install on previous batch a heat shield to prevent heat from going into the cabin. Newer batch is not involved as it has already been installed.

however, he did not tell me which batch has been affected as he said that Mazda will make their own arrangement to have a recall. Minor problem...he says...as the Mazda 6 also used to have this problem. Problem should be fixed within a day as it is a simple job.
