No definately oil. The "spare" was there as well but attached on the other side of the boot.

 

Does anyone know what brand of oil Mazda use?

 

I had to search the RX7Forum, but I found what is used in Greece for RX7s: Divinol Turbo 20W-50

The same viscosity should be OK for N/As as well.....

 

I spoke to the service manager while waiting for the previous test drive to come back and he told me that he had just found out that the service intervals had been confirmed at 12,500 miles but no suggested costings had been released.

 

Well mine will get oil changed more than that - I assure you ! ! !

As for costings - Hope they are not in line with RX7 !
I have always felt the rotary servicing should be cheaper, in that there are only 3 moving parts ! Does not seem to work that way though.....

 

Firstly are Mazda going to charge an arm and leg for this oil, if we have to only buy theirs ? Secondly, if the oil is contantly being replenished, and turnover greater, why do we need to have, say a 6K oil change ?

The deposits in the oil get trapped in your filter, so your filter will become clogged over time, draining out the system and replacing the filter are essential to keeping the oil free of damaging particles.

 

On the RX8 the filler cap states clearly that it requires 5w20.

 

That on the US ones? US has some strange laws about oil that we dont.

 

5W-20 ? Thats a mighty thin oil........is Renesis that advanced in comparison with the 13B, and the seals are able to operate with such smaller gaps ?

Yes, that is on the US ones... but I had assumed it was the same... perhaps I need to wait and see... but it'd surprise me if it's different.

 

Does the oil filter have a magnet in them to hold any swarf ? And if so, does that make them more expensive ?

I dont think so the swarf shouldl get trapped between the one way rubber inlet seal and the filter medium.

Oil filter should cost around a fiver, you can reuse the sump plug washer if you want, the only expensive bit is the oil.

Or the hour of your time to do the work.

Hey, 5W-20 is not that bad.......In comparison with the new VTEC engines (which work best with fully synthetic racing oils), its actually a lot cheaper (more so if you use dino oil)

 

Thanks for all the info, I'll be getting the dealer to do mine once it arrives.
After waiting so long for the car and paying so much money for it I'm not prepared to screw things up with an oil change.

yep i've already seen that thread it's a good one. in summary half the oil remains in the coolers and the filter is next to impossible to remove without the special tool. the conclusion seems to be change the oil without changing the filter between scheduled service intervals to improve engine life. let the guys with the tool do the full works at the specified intervals.

 

Bugbear, trawling through the threads last night I found that the tool costs less than $6 in the states. Maybe £5 here ?
