I ordered through a company car scheme so my dealer is Dovercourt Mazda in Colchester! I spoke to her yesterday and she still believes noone should have delivery dates yet.

She did say that they are arriving in Southampton as we speak but they are the demonstrators. The guy who drives the transporters is shipping them up to Silverstone at the moment. Apparently he says they are really good comfortable cars to drive.........all he is doing is driving them onto the back of his lowloader at 45 degree angles. What a versatile care this is!!!!!

Please Mazda - put mine on a speed boat :-)

Dear Mr Owen

Thank you for your e-mail.
I have no more news for you at present as until the boat with your Mazda RX-8 on it docks we will not be able to update the estimated delivery date for your vehicle. We are expecting the boat to arrive in mainland Europe in mid November (although this may change slightly due to weather conditions).
I can assure you that T W White & Sons are well aware of your desire to receive your Mazda RX-8 as soon as possible and as such they will contact you as soon as they have more information for you.
I appreciate that this is a difficult time as until the boat docks there is nothing that can be done to speed up the delivery of your vehicle, or provide you with much meaningful information.
Regards
Chris Twine

Having recieved an e-mail from Mazda today telling me that it's my last chance to pre-order an RX-8!!! I contacted my dealer who furnished me with my chassis number and a date for entry into the UK port (Kent) of 5/12/03.

He then estimated 2 to 3 weeks for
- customs
- Mazda checks
- transport
- dealer prep

Might be before Christmas, but then again, it might not be.

Here's hoping.

Hmm, if they think 25th Nov is Late October/Early november, perhaps they can think £17,000 is the same thing as £21995.

Totally impressed ......

Today, due to the invitation, I went to Mazda HQ in The Haque.
And there they were.
A red RX8 LP upgrade, a silver HP and the ULTIMATE titanium one. The same one I ordered in March, with the same options.
We were one of the first in Holland to touch, to smell, to feel, to hear, to LOVE the RX8.
I have to say, the RX8 looks far more bigger than on photos. It is realy a giant looking car. I have had over 30 cars in my life but never before I have felt this excitment. Unbelievable.
After 1,5 hours we had to go. And almost with tears in my eyes I drove home. I'm in love I guess.
The 3 cars are for dealers to come and look at them and for the Dutch press. After a couple of month's they will be sold as used cars.
Mazda told me also there have now been ordered in Holland 24 cars. Most of them are black.
My car will arrive at the dealer, that's a promise, on December 3 and I will be able to drive in my 8 just before Christmas this year. What better gift could one ask for ............
At the same time Mazda will have their brochure of accessoires ready and they will have most of the common things in stock.
Running out of words and my mind still in the 8 I wish you all a very good night.

Regards,

Eric

Congrats Eric, sounds like it was far from a disappointment - well, except when you had to leave...

One thing though, you say it seems very big compared to the photos? Can't say I felt the same when seeing a few over in the States - it seemed to me along the lines of the 911 in overall dimensions but with a longer/higher roofline. OTOH most of the cars I saw over there were gigantic tank-like beasts so maybe I was deceived...

And what's an "LP upgrade"?

I think the question was how do you upgrade to low power?
From your current car, I suppose.

What's LP Upgrade ???

We try to be original in the Netherlands, I guess.
Mazda sells 3 versions of the 8.
We have got a L(ow)P(ower) 192 BHP, an Upgrade (with Bose stereo, DVD Nav) and a H(igh)P(ower) with 238 BHP (and extra XENON, 6 speed and 17 inch break discs)
So I bought the LP upgrade version and (when in stock) I will go for several extra's. I will be my own Santa this year.

All the best,

Eric

I just got off to the my dealer in Beaconsfield to book a test drive for the 3rd Nov. Can't wait. Surprisingly, he also had a date for my winning blue high power. It is due to arrive in Rotterdam on the 26th Nov, and will be ready for me to pick it up about 2 weeks after that....So, fingers crossed it will definately be before Christmas! (assuming I like the test drive of course :-) )

Ordered at the beginning of July, so have not been waiting anywhere near as long as some of you, but still seems like a looooooong time !

Excellent, thanks for that tidbit timmy, I also ordered a blue hi-power way back in March and yours is the first firm date I've heard for a non-launch colour - sounds like it may be time for some more dealer hassling.

yeah, definately worth a try Lurcher. I rang them last week and they had nothing, so was not expecting anything yet at all. I was very shocked when they volunteered the information !

I saw a display model they had in their about 2 months ago (silver), but due to burnt out clutch, all I could do was sit in it. I was very impressed though. Bigger than I thought, which i'm happy with. Also turns out there was a Winnning Blue RX8 at Nyetimber Mazda along the south coast over the last weekend, but when I rang up to see if I could come down and see it, it was just being transported to Middlesborough :-(

Some more info gleaned on delivery dates.
The date thrown at me, Oct 22 (ie. today!!) was shown as 'earliest call-off date' on the system. That was explained as being the earliest available date the dealer might get it. My dealer did some digging and found that today the car has cleared through customs, and is sitting in a UK port ready for transportation. Now that could mean despatch on the same day, or more likely a number of days (even weeks) while the logistics people get them onto trucks. That apparently is a bit upredictable, so I think the rest of you guys who have a 'date' should press your dealer more about the above routine. My dealer called their distributor for the information, try suggesting the same (at the risk of the distributor then being too bogged down with phone calls to arrange transport!!)
Anyway, it does sound like the 'call-off date' is the 'ready at uk port' date and the rest is estimated. I suggest you try and get hold of that.
Another point to note is that my dealer was a bit miffed mine might be ready before their demonstrator! And there is no reason why not, after all we were told at the start that customers would get theirs before / same time as dealer cars, and most of us do not need a demonstrator to proceed with our purchase.
By the way I got a chassis no. but forgot to get a manufactured date, I will get that off my dealer tomorrow and post it on that thread just to help the jigsaw. And mine is a basic spec HP in black, ie cloth and no options at all which also fits into the scheme of things.
Cheers
JH

P.S.
Dont bother calling Mazda helpline, you will get more confused and downhearted like Feefee (see new thread). Speak to you dealer, who should in most cases have real information.

Hello there,

I also saw that same 3 cars in Bornem Belgium the last week of september and a chief of staf told me that I could expect my car (ordered in jan 03) in december; so Erics story confirms what I was told.

Now just a little patience, if we have some left.

Jon H - my dealer told me the same. Date I've been given (26/10) is the call off date - i.e. date released by port. Up to 15 days to get it on a transporter.

Not supprised he's miffed at getting a car before the dealer demonstrator, they get taught how to PDI it when they collect the demonstrator, so any car delivered to them before that may cause PDI problems unless they wait.

My dealer is getting my RX8 before he is getting one for demonstration. According to Mazda Holland he must be waiting for about two weeks after delivery of mine.
That will be somwhere around Christmas. He is getting a silver one, with black leather.
Most of the ordered 8ths in Holland will be black. Mine, as you probally know, will be Titanium with black/brown leather. Have to stay calm for at least 7-8 weeks.

Just spoken to my dealer who gave me my VIN no (at last) and now tells me that 16th November is the estimated delivery date to them so I should be looking at 18th November. That's only 3 weeks on Tuesday - so much to sort out!!!

EDIT - just looked at the other VIN's posted and they seem to be sequential (obviously) and match estimated delivery dates (i.e. lower = earlier.) Mine ends 103042 and is in the batch estimated at dealers on 16th Nov.

Again - I am confused....

I have been told by my dealer that the car is scheduled to them on the 26/10 (i.e. Sunday!) and that I can expect delivery 'within a couple of days'.

This means I could have my RX8 by next Wednesday !
It also means that my current car is pretty much sold etc etc.

From reading your posts I am wondering if this date was a released from port date too - Will place a call and try to clarify....

So close....

Morgan.

PS - Incidently - Basic spec here too (HP,cloth,no options) seems these are coming through first ?

Looks like having no extras (other than metallic) is the key to getting it first - congrats!

I really hope we see a forum member with an RX8 before the end of the month - I just can't wait to see a picture of a UK owners car!

Update - Spoke to head honcho.
Seems that the date I was told (26/10) was not the delivery to them , so I can only presume this must have been the release from port date

New date is delivery to them on the 11th November. (provisionally)

Thought it was too good to be true....
