Cool is there any comrade plan to get a turbo charge for your 8?

there seems to be 2 different choices by SSR and Greddy.... i dont really know which one is better???both of the two seem to be able to bring 60hp for our 8s....well im not sure if it is a right way to gain the hp of the re rotary engine...cant know if the engine is goin to be properly fit the turbo...or maybe supercharge will be a better choice...

From a technical standpoint, both a turbo and a supercharger will improve your performance but the thing with turbos is that you need revs for your power while the supercharger gives you power accross the RPM range.

Calculations would likely prove it but there's a case to be made that a supercharger adding 40hp to the peak will give your car better performance characterisitcs vs. a turbo adding 60hp.

Buy a PS2 and Grand Turismo 4...then get an RX-8 in the game. Modify it with a turbo or a supercharger and see the difference. The game is actually fairly accurate from a scientific standpoint. A supercharger will give you better lap times in tight cornered (ie: slow) tracks but a turbo will give you better times on a high-speed track. :D

Enough ramblin *twists his iron ring in satisfaction*

actually im pretty sure that is incorrect. I think in every scenario a turbo is better. Although a turbo will need spool up time, by adding a smaller turbine, you achieve very low lag. However a supercharger will always put a drain on your car, as it needs power from the engine to turn the pulley.
I think if we are talking about a bigger motor, they are comparable....but on a rotary or small displacement motor, a turbo is always better.

I did mention 'performance characteristics" from the standpoint that you have more available power without downshifting and since our cars develop power in the upper end, it would certainly be nice to have more down low. From your view though, you're probably right that you'll get better 0-60 times etc... but I still prefer the supercharger for its broader power range (RPM wise). And yes a small turbine will have low lag but can only develop a limited amount of power (as opposed to a big'un that'll give you a kick in the bum a high revs like to Mitsubishi EVO VIII) (which is a freakishly fast car, but you have to rev it otherwise it has nothing)

The whole drain on the engine thing though is kind of a moot point. If the supercharger drains 5hp since the engine has to run it but gives you 20hp (by itself), well, you have a 15hp gain. Little known thing about turbos is that they add backpressure to the exhaust system which, thermodynamically speaking, takes away some of the energy released in the combustion process to spin it. Again, the net effect here is that it gives you more power than it takes.

Verdict: depends how you drive your car and where more power is beneficial to you.

*ugh, I can see this becoming a debate but there's the pros and the cons and I'm sure either a turbo or a supercharger on our 8's would increase the fun factor*

couldnt agree more!! my side of the argument is the complete opposite, as your low end power. I'd rather rev the motor alot to get a huge gain up top. (probably a trend from racing so many 2-strokes where we engage the clutch at 10,000RPM's)

Depending on how much power you want, you pick a turbo. I think you should find a good rotary shop near you and go visit the place. These rotary shops have very experienced guys who can guide you through this process. Make sure you see some work they have done before. In NJ there are amazing shops, which can make better use of that money.

Just keep in mind, the engine is new and no one has taken it to the extreme.

Price is also an important factor. From what I have seen the smaller gredy is about half the price of the larger SSR turbo. In terms of actual gains I have heard somewhat outrageous claims from both companies.
