How do they actually produce those dyno graphs (alternatively just point out what I'm doing wrong)

When I look at the graph a few pages back and look at the blue lines the torque at 8200 is greater than the torque at 8000 yet the power line is falling. That makes no sense to me.

The they run some kind of moving averages formula to smooth everything out?

regards
Andrew

There is no torque displayed on that graph. There is Power (derived from torque, as you know) and Boost. You could plot torque if you wanted - all the info is there apart from the roller RPM. Dave, what gear was she in? You could make an assumption about the roller diameter to give the relative shape of the torque curve, just the scale/values would be off.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Actually, thinking about it some more, you don't need to know it. According to the posted graph, she makes a max of about 218 lb.ft of torque at about 6000 RPM. This is the derived torque at the flywheel, not counting for drivetrain losses. It is how Dynojet's report the torque we see in a lot of the US posts.

Cheers,
Hymee.

BTW - The DynoDynamics rollers diameter is 217mm.

Ciao,

Well, there are a few choices rather than the 6SP transmission. The 5SP would be a cheaper alternative. Or you could chop shop the Bell Housing or the transmission tunnel but that might not be that safe. What about a miata transmission ? Would that fit ? May be a custom bellhousing.

The issue is he's developing a kit to sell to other 8 owners, so it has to work with the 6sp

agree with that 120%.
it'd be a different story if ciao's doing an one-off conversion.

dont worry, he is in the process of obtaining a 6sp

Chopping And welding the Bellhousing is out of the question .

The more I research this the morfe I come to the conclusion that it must have been a defect in the manufacture ....NB . I have always had a glitchy 4th gear .

These boxes have seen over 400 hp in a 200sx / silvia with no issues
I have spoken to a gearbox specialist and he believes the gearbox to be bulletproof and is also of the opinion that if there has been some dodgy boxes from this Asian Manufacture

The S6 RX7 box is designed and built in Japan

I have also learned that the 5 speeder has the identicle part number as the Bravo Pickup . It has been designed for more torque

I may have a New G/box in a week .

As Timbo said , this kit is designed and tuned for the 8 owners with the 6 speeder

Keep Ya'll posted

Ciao

Dave

No. The maximum boost is 13.5 PSI from that graph.

The "top" two lines are power - from his "hi" and "low" boost tests. The "bottom" two are the boost graphs. How do I know? Good question. That is how power curves look, and that is how boost curves look. It is a bit like looking at the results of some of those maths equations when you can discard one of the possible answers because it looks wrong. The boost curve doesn't look like a power curve, and vice versa. Also if the boost was 22 PSI and the power was 115HP, then something would be wrong.

Cheers,
Hymee.

PS - To answer the question about how these work... The back wheels drive a roller, and the roller has a thing that measures a force (load cell). From the force a torque value can be computed. The torque value and the RPM of the roller give a power figure, as measured at the roller, i.e "wheel power". There are other complicated things, such as a "retarder" that ensures load is put on the engine/roller, so the engine is not "free revving".

Cheers,
Hymee.

I'm new to this forum and have been reading this thread with much interest. Are there any pics, vids, a website, that my American computer can access. Never heard of an mp4 file.

Hey Guys .....Thanx for waking me up from the RX8 dead .
Ive been hanging around on the forum but haven't had much to say I'm sorry
I have had a very frustrating couple of months mucking around with Gearboxes ....Had one lined up from down south and the "Malaka" Changed his mind for some reason .....Spewin
In the interim I have tried to retro fit a S5 -S6 G/box with limited success....

Anyhow , Ive been busy biulding my recording studio which is 98% complete .
Spent Friggin $20K on outboard Gear and sound insulation for my Studio
Ive written an album of material since my first album ,so I now have a place where I can put my songs "to tape"

I'm pulling the G/box out of my car over the weekend and taking it to a third party to ascertain the cause of failure. ....Should be up and running in a few weeks

Must get back to the Studio .... My Muse Awaits .....Bye guys !!!

Stay Beautiful !

Dave

"Poosti"? I always spelled it "pousti".
Missy: it should read "Koukla mou" (my doll or teddy bear).

Kali nichta, thelos mou!
