EOI: Knightsports coming to Melb/Adel for ECU remapping any contenders
#102
Our ECU on the RX8 is very clever but cannot distinguish between types of exhausts so your tune can only really improve with a better catalyctic converter and free flowing exhaust .

Oh fair enough, I figured it was worth an ask if a different type of 98RON fuel was used can be detected.
I'm trying to think of performance mods to slap on that will maximise the potential of the tune.
Does anyone have recommendations, so far I've got a hymee + intermediate pipe thats about it. I've been in an rx8 with REVi and K&N and hated it.

g30ffman, There is no ecu change, purely a reflash of the ecu similar to what Mazda do at service. You have Racing Beat that already do this for you and Cobb Racing that are working on a hand reflasher. As for fuel, we use the RON octane rating whereas the USA uses something else (sorry to lazy to go look it up) but from memory your 91 is the same as our 95 and your 93 is the same as our 98.

Check this out!
http://rxreviews.wordpress.com/2007/05/
Stock 6 speed Rx8 with only knightsport ecu and no engine / exhaust mods posted 202.3 hp at the wheels on their dyno in Singapore. This is very promising, as the knightsport tune for Singapore is similar to ours as it was developed for 98 octane fuel.

The article clearly states that the 202.3 hp figure is at the wheels.
It would be a sad day if the best hp at the crank for a knightsport flashed 6 speed was 202.3 hp, let alone the 140hp for the stock automatic. Jeez, even my mums 1.6 ltr stock corolla puts out 100kw at the crank.
Even U.S rx8s are putting out about 185-190 hp consistently at the wheels in stock trim.

I was under the impression that i'd send the ecu to RB, they'd flash it and send it back? Or does someone have to tune it to fit the car once you get the ecu back? forgive me if the questions seem stupid and i admit i haven't searched using the search tool but i had originally subscribed to this thread and you guys are quite knowledgeable..
Thanks

I don't know about the best but I think there is minimal difference from what I have seen so far.
I will prefer pod style in a close cage, but then again it is much similar to drop in a good filer with some RAM intake mod.
I dunno dry or wet, but I don't think washable is what they advertised to be. I doubt the filter will be the same after each wash. So I will go dry type and change periodically.

I have time today to change the spark plugs, all the oils and oil filter today. So it is a clean car for them to tune.
I will drop a clean filter later too. ....
Can't wait
BTW - the spark plug came out is not bad at all, but the car has extra tick when I put the foot down, rotary is very sensitive to good spark flow.

Taka,
Definately a new set of plugs makes the world of difference to an engine designed to burn oil!!!! they get coated with deposits rather rapidly.
Ive seen alot of plug problems with rotaries over the last 11yrs of
playing with them!!
I`m still waiting for My ECU to come, so I can tune the 8, cant wait.....
Rest of the Knightsports shipment is due to arrive 2morrow also, i`ll get some pics up
when it comes to show you the dedication these guys have given us!!

Taka left out that his plugs didnt "look" fouled, that was the strange part.
Jas when you say
are you saying you are getting the tuning software yourself?

I am confident that the engine is pulling noticeably better now.
Have also done an engine grounding kit of my own & have some 10mm IGN leads on their way too.
HKS-Twin power coming soon when there is spare cash.

I have road tuned it yesterday and i tell ya so far it feels great, wheelspin 1st second off the mark, very responsive power, say if you are hold ing it at 3000rpm thru a corner and gas it the power is right there.
WINTON HERE WE COME!!!!
