haha only joking timbo interestingly, odula who also do ECU tuning seemed to have similar results (ie mid range torque improvements) http://www.odula.com/page/rx8_ecu.htm

Well, my turn for the dyno run came today. They had concluded (in advance) that my reflash done a month prior would be satisfactory but ended up being surprised at the actual results.

Remembering that mine is a stock 4-port 4AT version

From start until 5000rpm, the engine runs a very scary 14.0:1 AFR. At 5000rpm the 4-ports open up & the AFR dips to 12.0:1 then settles at 12.5:1 by 6000rpm for the climb to the 7500rpm redline.

The inconsistancy in the AFR graph puzzled them but it was late in the day & a visit to Xtreme Rotaries was pending so no further playing around was possible.

In short, I have to remove the ECU & send it to Japan for them to play around again. How I am going to convince my partner the RX-8 will be out of action again is something I'll have to work out myself.

For the record, my RX-8 came in at a massive 90KW at the wheels. This was done in 2nd gear as 3rd (1:1) took the dyno past the 200km/h speed rating. Jason consouled me by saying his 4-port 5MT came in at 100KW when it was stock & the Knightsports people said it was an expected reading for a 4AT model.

For the record, the leaned out AFR's below 5000rpm has assisted in me getting dead on 10km/lt for the trip down to MEL loaded with baggage, child & cruising at 120km/h

Dave, was good to meet ! I need to send mine over as well. Reckon there is any cost savings shipping them together?

Cheers

Agreed, is good to put a face to the user-name as the chance to do so is always few-&-far between.

As for sending them togather....??

I am having 2nd thoughts of sending mine back to Japan now. You see, the 14.0:1 AFR below 5000rpm means the RX-8 is getting excellent fuel economy (for a rotary).

The car just did 590km on a single tank of fuel (MEL-to-SYD). Got 59lt into it on the re-fill to maintain the 10km/lt figure it achieved on the trip down.

I mean, would I be throwing that fuel economy out the window if they play with it again....??

Leaning too much out may not be extremely safe right??? I am not an expert in that as you can tell from Wednesday. I was basically clueless.

Car still strong!

the temp gauge sitting 87 at most since they set the fan to turn on that that temp!

No engine light, idling is fine, fuel econ is better 14.5L/100km even I am really testing it.

The car is more violent on high rev... still very useless below 3000rpm. The car sounds noiser too, and you can tell the engine is making lots of effort - or me playing it more often

Power is very addictive and get bored of it very quickly. Now I want more....

From the feedback you guys have given it sounds like the knightsport tune is directed more towards track work than real everyday on road driving .

Surely one would prefer low down Torque as opposed to high end power in a street use situation .

Was it Taka that reported loss of low down Tourque , but more mid to high end power ?

This type of tune may suit his track driving but not his suburbia style of driving .

No what he has pointed out is that below 3000 its basically the same but above that you get some nice modest gains, especially torque, which happenes to be very usefull on the track yes.

Cheers

No no that is comparing the KS tune with 100RON fuel (V power racing) compared with 98 RON (V power)

This tune is as much as a daily driver street use as well as track. There are gain everywhere above 3000rpm. Mainly 4000-5000rpm. Why is it not a street tune then!
