So, anyone have an idea what the failure rates are on the radiator fans? I'm looking into RE-MEDY cooling mods just to prevent any future possible overheating. Just got curious, because my Honda Element with Denso fans both gave out after about 9 years of ownership.

Well there isn't much to go wrong on the radiator fan, but the motor itself. Anyone know wither it is a PERM or Brush less PERM? Anyway some motors have multiple windings for multiple speeds. If you wanted to get technical, you could buy a ammeter and thermocouple on Amazon for a few bucks and monitor the change from the cabin.

I added a Aux fax thermostat on my return coolant line, and an extra "high" relay that has the coil attached to an IGN relay I added myself so I wouldn't damage the Factory PCM or SJB. (Smart Junction box)

If you can increase the oil cooling effectiveness, the radiator will not get as hot, therefore the motor will not burn up as fast. Most of the time, the car uses the air from you moving to cool itself, not the fan motor.

I would say the failure rate is proportional to where you live and how hot it gets there and how hot your car gets. I have not noticed mine having any issues after almost 5 years, it still moves air like a champ.

What happens if you try to start the car with the MAF disconnected?

You can start it just fine. It will idle a bit rich. You won't be able to go anywhere very easily though. It defaults to a safe fueling map that basically assumes that at any given RPM, that you are at full throttle, flowing as much air as you possibly can. This is so insanely rich that reving above 2,500-3,000 is drowning the spark with so much fuel that it will actually cause raw fuel to puddle under your exhaust tips.

You might be able to drive it around if you literally ARE at full throttle everywhere, but that is actually really hard to do on the street, and there is probably some other safety in place that will engage if you try. I never tried, but I did once accidentally leave my MAF disconnected after a coil change.

I disconnected the harness and it started for literally a second then dipped back down to zero. I tried to give it gas to keep the RPM's up but it was completely nonresponsive.

My car is throwing U0121, and it has been 4 restarts since everything kind of crashed on me (power steering, ABS, idle) and the car appears to be holding back, but I can't tell if it is the PCM doing it. I am sure there are more codes stored now, but I don't want to clear them with Torque because then I lose my fuel calibration and may hide the code from the dealer.

2009 RX8 R3 S2 Manual
Anyone know if that code can reduce the PCM's load or make the car hold back timing etc?

The powersteering came back after a quick reboot, and same for the TCS, but the light is staying on, and it is a red code in Torque. I fear the PCM might be going since this isn't the first time the car has freaked.

Last time I cleaned all the terminals and grounds in the engine bay, the battery post, and the battery clamps on the inside. I grind-ed them down to make sure there was nothing preventing conduction and the resistance to ground was good.

Eastwood rust products are very good, at least they are for me. I have quite a bit of rust i have been working on all summer and i buy from them now.

Does anyone know if the oil cooler covers that doesn't have the fog light would fit an R3 bumper? If so, can I get a part number for it? I'm asking because the non fog light cover comes only on the Sport (I think) and not on the R3. This is the cover I'm talking about.

Just to give you an example of what it looks like, I actually did that when installing the R3 bumper on my Sport....

Thank you so much for the part numbers paimon.soror. Much appreciated. And thank you aprtur for the pictures. That's exactly what I'll be doing. An R3 bumper without fog lights looks pretty good I must say!

I asked because I'm doing an S1 to S2 swap. I found out that the S2 oil cooler cover with fog lights have multiple parts. I have to buy like 3 parts yeah? And that silver strip that runs below the fog light is a separate part? That's so weird and that's excluding the actual fog light. So I decided to go for the cover that doesn't have the fog light. I checked the links. The non fog light cover is one part right? And there's a small frame/grill surround that attaches to the bottom part of the oil cooler opening? So altogether 2 parts? Is that all I need? Can I make do without that frame? Just trying to keep costs to a minimum as parts over here are expensive

Thank you so much. I'm really stuck here :D

Does anyone have a stock dyno chart of their 8? I have searched almost endless hours to find one, and I dont trust google images to have one that is real.
The one forum I found on here didnt work... the picture was deleted

Preferably an '05 6MT Sport model, but any 1st gen 6MT is fine by me. Im curious on the actual numbers, rather than this 238hp number i keep seeing on wiki and mazda sites

FYI, I replaced my Sport bumper with the R3 one when I managed to nick a raccoon...cost to me after insurance check with paint, and reusing parts from my Sport bumper was about $1200. I'd say you're looking at a couple grand to do an R3 bumper on your car correctly....and that's not even throwing in the fenders, headlights, and other S1 to S2 components.

I have bought the fenders and the lights. The R3 bumper is on the car right now. Looks fabulous. I noticed that there's a little rubber cover behind the oil cooler opening to direct airflow through it. Since the oil cooler opening of the S2 bumper is bigger than the S1 bumper, I couldn't reuse it. The new cover was like $120 each. So I decided to make one using some metal sheets rofl if anyone has clear pictures of that cover, please share.

2007 AT. Pretty much every time I start my car and move out of the drive way, on the 3rd brake pedal stomp or so, I feel a vibrating "bbrrrrppp" in the brake pedal. It sounds like a piece plastic scratching another piece of plastic. I think it comes from inside the car where the brake pedal connects to the car. It happens for like a second. The pedal vibrates as it happens. What could this be?

Are you on a slope? Are the brakes stopping any differently on the 3rd stomp?

Not on a slope. It stops fine. It's not always the 3rd stomp. It only happens after starting the car. Never happens again. Well, it happens again when I start it again.

Isn't the ABS test more like a "thu dum"? That's how most people have described it. I've never heard it though.

The jack is self sensing, so if you were to try it unplugged it would not switch to AUX. Try plugging in a 3.5 jack in Accessory, then unplugging it, then plugging it back in. If it still doesn't work, the part may be for another Mazda without that sensing capability. I know the 3 didn't care if anything was plugged in or not, but the RX8 does.

Try it in Accessory to rule out any electronic noise from the engine. Poor ground may throw off that plug's reading.

New to the forum ( should have joined long ago). This is my first rx8. I was wondering if anyone has removed the ssv on the rx8 as most have ( even myself) on the original 13b?
