Always up for a meet. Depends on the weather though.
of course!!

I'd be up for a meet as well. We could have a contest to see who has the most salt on their car.

I believe i got that one covered as of right now haha...i haven't washed it since beginning of dec. but i'll wash it for the meet..kinda soon but what do you guys think about the 3rd or 4th of Jan...?

Hey xtremetreadwear, I hope when you said 2 velocity reds, you meant adding yours to the pictures as the car in the rear is my Copper Red RX8. :) Not velocity red though it may seem like it in that picture.

slat water tanks are the way to go!!! but i hate the mantainence.

So how about that snow? Damn hard to drive in. I am not worried about my driving skills, rather I am worried about the other drivers out there. 80mph in these conditions is stupid (a lexus IS almost hit me when they couldn't change lanes fast enough cause it was slippery). That's me though.

Also, most of you probably alreay know, $35 a month auto deducted from a credit card, you can get unlimited car washes from holiday.

I'm an owner of one of those Titanium RX-8's. Mine is a 2004, bought it at Polar in White Bear and it's garaged November 1 till May 1 in a friends barn so I'm not tempted to have fun in the snow. Was wondering if anyone has changed their tires yet and if so did you stick with the Bridgestones or change brands.

Keep rocketing around and flash your lights if you see another on the road.

i went with some blizzaks it was 185 a tire..but honestly it's well over worth it..because last night we had over a good inch of snow on the ground and ice underneath and i was purposely trying to lose control and i couldn't do it...so it swerved a lil bit but it caught so thats what i'm happy with.

On a side note I am currently running on a set of Pirelli Winter 210 Sottozero and I absolutely love them. These are the only winter tires I have experience with but I would definitely buy them again. The are exceptional when it comes to breaking and also provide great traction in the corners. I can't speak to their longevity yet as I have only driven on them since November. I will post up some pictures of the winter setup sometime over the next couple of days.

Yeah i was probably going to do the ebay thing for the rims cuz other options seem to be too spendy. Alright I'll check out those tires.
I have to get summer tires also haha cuz they are already balled...going to be an expansive spring when it comes around

damn near broke my finger... I pulled as hard as i could on one side and it popped out... then had bend the clip back....

i would say just work on one side. once one side is free it is easy. it is soooooo much easier to show vs tell. should have taken snapshots while installing, i knew those directions were kinda lame.

So.... I got my car all cleaned up since it's been above freezing. Even changed the oil and tranny fluid. Then my brothers car broke so he needed to borrow mine. He's a pretty good driver so I said sure why not, even though I hadn't really driven it yet since I got it cleaned up.

Well aparently it was a horrible idea because while he was driving down 94 some idiot with a big plastic ice fishing sled in the back of their truck went flying past him and the sled flew out and hit the hood and bumper of my car dead on. Dents and scratches. And of course the guy kept driving while my brother tried not to crash.

So if any of you are missing a plastic sled thing, you owe me some body work.

Tony that is too bad the LEDs are not very bright. For brake lights I have a set of the spider lite LEDs

Much brighter and give a nice afterburner look to the tails :)

For turn signals I was looking to see if I could find them online but will have to do more looking. They use the high power LEDs.

Well the project I've been working on has finally been announced. While not RX-8 specific, might provide some fun diversions if I ever get some free time.

http://www.genivi.org/

This is a new organization of automakers and tier-1's (the auto parts makers), who are collectively resisting Microsoft and attempting to build an open automotive infotainment solution. The idea is to allow the various people to spec a standards based system and then provide their own custom applications and user interface... this should both save money and speed time to market for many of these components.

BTW related is the reference platform:

http://www.congatec.com/ivikit.html

Thats a 1-DIN automotive reference platform... Pricely but could make a nice replacement to the nav box in the back of the 8.. ;) I've been contemplating that for a while now, but until later this year it won't yet be practical.. ;)

Also got that test pipe in... and as expected... CEL light came on. Any ideas on how to get rid of it? Did the brake thing, and un hooked the battery, only to have it come back on after 30 miles. Maybe new sensor?

Cars and Coffee will begin In April. It is once a month the 1st Saturday of every month from 8am-11am get there early for a good spot check out http://www.automotorplex.com

Hey guys, I just bought my RX8 about 3 weeks ago. Great car! It's nice to know there are more of us in Minnesota, I live in Elk River and have yet to see another 8!

I read on the first few pages about Walser being a good place to take our cars, that's where I bought mine from, but I haven't been into the service section yet. I'm planning on taking my car in there later today to have the tests run on my engine to check for any issues.

O well, just wanted to say hi!

hey all,

just saying hello. i live in St. Paul and picked up a black 06 shinka from a guy in Minneapolis on April 1 - hopefully i'm not the fool. fun, impressive car (even stock) and i like knowing i will not see another 30 of them on the road every time i take it out.

used morrie's last week to take care of a couple outstanding recalls / TSBs and was satisfied; as long as i'm lacking the space to do it myself will probably go back for the 15k service whenever i get there and to check on the rear end "growl" during low speed turns after long highway driving.

this forum has been an awesome source of info so far as i'm learning the car. enjoy the driving weather!

always said i would never buy another black vehicle, the front of my truck looks like salt-n-pepper, but ended up getting a black 8 and now i want to save the nose. if anyone has an installer related opinion i'd like to hear the story.

That's fine, if you want to hook up and roll to perkins i could wait on the intersection of Highway 100 and Interstate 494 for you, just pick a place.

Maybe the Sheraton Bloomington Hotel? Address is 7800 Normandale Blvd, Minneapolis, MN.

Also if I could toss out a phone number to someone like MadeULook or XDJ JDX just in case my GPS hates on me, or more commonly I get lost, that would be great! I promise I wont text or call you before 6:30 haha

Hello,

I completed the install of Esmeril turbo kit on my car about a month and a half ago but don't have a chance to get the car tuned. Right now it is running on base map which runs very rich. It runs great but need tuning. Do any of you know a good dyno shop that would do tuning on rotary car? The one place I know is RS Motorsports in Burnsville. They do have experience tuning RX7s using APEX engine management system. There is a shop called DB performance in Rogers near my house that do dyno tuning but they refuse to do tuning on rotary engine. If anyone know such place please PM me.

It supposes to rain this weekend but I will try to make it to the meet.

Thanks guys.

RS Motorsport does a pretty good job, at least for the RX7s... and i am preety sure they will take care of you and your 8... Savage Streets Machines off of HWY 13 in savage do a great job on all cars... and you should go there cause they need more customers... shoot them an email and see what they say and quote you....

I see there are quite a few Minnesotans with RX-8s out there - that's great to see! I just got mine a month ago, a lightly-used '04, and am enjoying it immensely! I've wanted a sports car for 40 years or so, but this is the first one for me, and I love it.

That being said, my RX-8 is a daily driver, and I'm already thinking about what I need to do to make it usable during a southern MN winter. I know I'll need some tires, and have been also thinking about a wheel/tire package. What have you found that works in the ridiculous winters we have here? I'd like to keep the cost down as much as I can, but I also want to drive the car year-round.

Any and all suggestions are welcome - thanks!

I use Maguiar's NXT version II wax on mine after I clayed the car. And I use the black bottle Maguiar detail spray (forgot the name...)after each wash. I do not have water softener at my house so the water is hard and making car wash not very enjoyable at times. It will leaves white residue on the paint if not dry the car properly. I ended up washing my car in late evening or early morning most of the time. Since I have this car, it only seen rain less than 5 times per year. The only time it gets water is when I wash it. I kept the car in indoor garage so the paint still look like new.

I use the exact same stuff. so when it rains, don't worry too, much a quick dry in the garage with a microfiber towel and the qwik wash (black bottle) and it will look like it never touched rain. :)

Hello,
I just bought a 2008 untitled RX8 40th Anniversary edition with every option available ( but NAV was not an option?) on June 10th, 09.
A little background: I road raced, AutoX and 1/4 mile a twin turbo well moddified Stealth, running the AEM ems, Evo 16G's for the past 10 years and last June passed it down to my oldest married son. As fast as that Stealth was, the RX8 is so much better for a driver's car..so impressed!
I have no experience with the rotary engine and hope to have a not too steep learning curve with this platform.

The dealer gave me a free Lifetime drive train warranty even though Mazda apparently gives a 100K mileage warranty on the engine, retro active to 2004. I guess they did that last December? So as long as I use only Mazda Speed parts, the warranty is good. Am I out of luck on that for getting a bit better torque and better mileage? The first 950 miles has shown hwy of 22.7 mpg :(
My 440+ hp 3600 lb AWD Stealth got 26mpg at 75 mph hwy using the AEM ems to lean out the AFRs to 15.00 : 1 I don't think another AEM ems will be used given the warranty for Life coverage..ah the good with the bad, as they say.

Hope to meet all of you MN owners some day!

I hope you knew about the gas mileage before you bought the car. I am going to tell you right now, if gas mileage is a concern, you bought the wrong car. If you bought it for fun, amazing handling, unique sound and an engine unlike anything else on the road, then you bought the right car. :)

You should definitely join us when we have a meet up the next time. It will be nice to have another special edition RX8 in the group.

Hope to see someone!

I was checking what recalls have been done at the dealership the other day and while I was waiting I test drove the 09 R3 that was at the auto show. It handles really nice and was really smooth but I was dissappointed at how slow it felt. I didn't realize how much I'd miss the minimal gains I get from my exhaust/intake and ignition kit. Maybe it was just my imagination and I'm just too used to sounding fast with my sp2 exhaust.

Does anyone know of any dyno stats that support a noticeable difference after swapping in the SP2 exhaust? I read somewhere that the K&N cold air intake system actually makes next to no gains and just sounds way too loud.
having come from a twin turbo car, I have had to acclimate to the lack of " feel of the pants" when accelerating yet the numbers appear better than what the seat feels, because of the less torque in comparison to the old car, a modified twin turbo Stealth. Hands down, this 2008 Rx8 with Bilstein package out handles any of the big guns.
Would there be any advantage in power or in Hwy. mileage by swapping in a drop in K&N air filter?
I logged a decent 23 plus mpg at a sustained 3 hr trip at plus 70 mph trip recently..not too bad on a bone stock new car with under 1500 mileage.

Hands down, this 2008 Rx8 with Bilstein package out handles any of the big guns.
Would there be any advantage in power or in Hwy. mileage by swapping in a drop in K&N air filter?
I logged a decent 23 plus mpg at a sustained 3 hr trip at plus 70 mph trip recently..not too bad on a bone stock new car with under 1500 mileage.

um... switching to a louder intake is much more desirable... i like to hear how my engine is responding... love the rotary but it was waaaaay too quiet for my liking.

I opted out of getting the K&N for the simple fact of oiling and deteriorating life of filter. I have the AEM cold air intake and veerrrrrrry happy with it. I have already cleaned the filter once and it is an easy 15 dollar step, plus it is not easily damaged....

i also have a B&B test pipe and the sp2 exhaust.... other than the occasional flame shooting from exhaust, it didn't fair too bad with gas mileage. I drive to and from work about 20 miles and average 20mpg, driving not so aggressive. going on a 3hr trip today, i will know how that fairs, will do around 75mpg... I believe the K&N reported less gains than the cold air intakes, but slightly louder. I think a pulley set would help you a lot more than the intake would first... at least it seemed that way when i put in my pulleys.

Thanks for the information on upgrades.
I need to find out if a cold air intake other than MazdaSpeed version, would kill the lifetime warranty on the drove drain that they thew in for free on all their new cars.

There is another Car & Cafe Event on the 4th of July. It should be a better turnout because of weather. Is anyone interested?

Hey Guys,

I would love to be able to meet up with you all in Eagan. Im in Moorhead. Im going to be gone for the 4th, but maybe we can do something towards the end of July!!

I took the Rx8 on a 3400 mile road trip out west and then down into the southern midwest. What a great time! I had just put on my new MOMO 19"s and my Falken 452s.

You would not believe some of the looks Rx8s get in the mountain areas.

My wife and I took the Rx8 camping in the mountains in wyoming, and badlands areas of south dakota.

Hope to meet up with you guys soon!
