View Full Version : NY International Auto Show
Does anyone know if the RX-8 will make an appearance at the New York International Auto Show? I plan on attending, and currently I am debating on whether to get an Rx-8 or a 350Z. I would definately like to see the Rx-8 in person before I make a decision, and I want to see how comfortable the backseats are in person as well.
wakeech 02-23-2003, 07:57 PM at a super-huge show like that, they may not let you sit in the back seat...
well, MAYBE if you tell them you're thinking of getting a Z ;)
Hercules 02-23-2003, 07:58 PM I'll be at the NY Auto show... they better let me sit in it! I'll beg the reps :)
Do you know if the Rx-8 is going to be there though?
One of the main reason for me to go is to see the car in person, even if I won't be able to sit in it ;p
Hercules 02-23-2003, 08:07 PM I'm sure it will be there... there are no other coinciding auto shows that the RX-8 might have to be at instead of the NY show... which is why it's a near guarantee. :)
unemployedpimp 02-23-2003, 09:19 PM if i were u , i would throw a rock at the people that dont let u sit in it and run:D
P00Man 02-23-2003, 09:25 PM LOL. is that going to be a Javits Cvn Cntr?

pmacwill 02-23-2003, 09:52 PM when is the NY show? I really want to see one in person and would love to sit in it as well. worth the drive since its the closest chance from dc to see it.
Yep I'm gonna be there too, I think its around April 17 but cant remember..

I think April 17th is a preview day not for the public, starts 18th for the rest of us. Mazda rep at Baltimore show told me an RX-8 would definitely be at New York. Of course, he told another show goer that the new power under the hood of the RX-8 was not a 13B, it is the Renesis...
ZoomZoomH 02-24-2003, 08:59 AM hey I want to go up the NYC to see the RX-8 too!!!!
do I hear Road Trip to NYC???? how about it you DC folks???
rx8daniel 02-24-2003, 12:25 PM I'd be up for it! I've never driven to NYC, but I work with someone who has family back there. It is apparently about a 7 hour drive? That's from Frederick. I would want a guarantee that I'd get to sit in one. I think even if they have it closed to the reckless often inconsiderate and even abusive public that they'd at least, at the end of the day, let those of us with orders have that opportunity. At any rate, just an FYI - it is Easter weekend in case that changes any plans for those contemplating a road trip. I'd want to leave early Saturday morning I think. Obviously an all day event without an overnight stay. Adding a stay and leaving Friday afternoon may work too.
SA22C 02-24-2003, 12:48 PM Of course, he told another show goer that the new power under the hood of the RX-8 was not a 13B, it is the Renesis...
The Renesis ISN'T a 13B. While it may displace 1.3 liters and have the same gross measurements as the previous rotaries, there are more than enough differences for the motor to be in a class of it's own.
TreknMazda 02-24-2003, 01:09 PM I have seen the nightmare that is called parking around the Javits Center during the car show:eek: I would be more inclined to take Amtrak to NYC. It's 4 hours or less from DC depending which train you take. Bring a laptop with DVD and watch movies while enjoying a beverage of your choice from the Cafe Car;)
Take the train to Penn Station NY. Either walk or take a cab. It's only about 4 blocks or so west of the station on 34th street.

Once there look for the man in the blue suit holding a rose. He will escort you to your destination. Remember, confidentiality is of utter most importance, and if your identity is revealed all is lost.
ZoomZoomH 02-24-2003, 01:32 PM yes train would work even better, no need to drive! :D

Donny Boy 02-26-2003, 05:53 AM The RX-8 should be there. After all, it was there for the October 2002 show.
quicks8 02-26-2003, 06:32 AM Send an email to RX8ORDERS they will be able to tell you.

I'm not so sure about that. Remember, the change from the 'A' to 'B' engines was the eccentricity. Also, back before the RENESIS name was thought up, they called this engine the 13b-MSPRE (Multi Side Port Rotary Engine). So we may yet hear the 13b name applied to this engine...
rx8daniel 02-26-2003, 10:38 AM I'd like to propose a group leader to organize a possible road trip from the DC area to the NYC show. I can do it - if any interested would private message me or add a post here that w/ an email address I'll accumulate a list to be on it. Having taken Amtrak to NYC from Philly once and taking forever to get back, I'd prefer to take a van or maybe caravan if we have enough to some point from which we could take a train into the downtown area. Obviously those wanting to make the trip can get together to decide the final mode of transport from here to there and back.
As for the 13B part - I tried to find mention of it in literature and Mazda's website to no avail. The twinturbo was the 13B-REW apparently. The Renesis obviously isn't a 12A, it's not a 20C; I think it has to be a 13B something- 13B-REN would be a logical designation - but it's almost like Mazda is wanting to get away fron that naming nomenclature with Renesis. I'll continue to think of it as a 13B for conversation sake.
