So you don't think a repossession would cause a salvage title?
The ad was double posted, the first one said nothing about haveing a salvage title and the second one did. I emailed the guy and he said the second one was posted by his wife and is a dud. I assume he means that the car does not have a salvage title. I am awaiting a reply from him with more questions about this.
IF the car did have a salvage title, would it show up on carfax?
And how can I look at a title and tell if it is a salvage title or not?

Rory: I'm not sure how it works in other states but in CA, salvaged titles are reserved for vehicles with extensive damage.
If a car is reposessed, it should not end up salvaged because the car was taken for financial reasons, not because of an accident.
in CA you can look right at a vehicle registration and it plainly says 'salvaged' on the form.

Jedi: Ok, that was my initial understanding of salvage titles. The guy replied and says the title is clear. What exactly does a clear title mean? Just that it is not salvaged, or that it has no lien and is not salvaged?

"The car is already at the shipping company in San Diego, CA sealed and ready for the shipping.. I'm very busy with my job and I'm left out of the town so I can't meet in person with you so this is the reason why I chose to sell my car over the internet I also have the car listed on eBay and that lets me use their secured system.According to eBay you have 5 days from the time you receive the car to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not.
So please let me know if you are interested so i can give you the directions to the ebay site so you can check the auction. The auction have buy it now option for $4,000.Oh...I forgot to tell you we will split the shipping fees so please let me know your shipping address so I can get you the shipping quotes.
