Coils...gad nabit
If you guys recall...when I initially dropped my car off, I wanted them to check the coils....due to my low dyno results.
I was told that they had a diagnostic to run, but then was later told that this was only for Buicks, and that for Mazda's, they just check to see whether a CEL was thrown.
well, I was just checking through Rosenthal Mazdas sight...also to see if there were tranmission notices...

quandry, do I go down now..., call, or just take it cause the trans worked out for me

there is a lot of interesting things in there:
anyone have a squeeky clutch, when I saw this, I was hoping this was what I was requesting them to do given my clutch is hard to engage....but I don't think this is it.

Read this one guys:

Food for thought: Ignition coils have been a BIG discussion on this board the past 90 days or so. A bunch of people have been changing theirs, the SoCal Dyno Group was talking about them, Onlinemazdaparts had to order extras, and then....BAM....suddenly MNAO has a TSB for it.
did u get your car back keith and how is it running? good news i hope...
were defective ignition coils fairly common & across the board for 2005's? (ie how do we identify when we need our ignition coils changed? (i know when i burned one out on the beamer every gear felt like 2nd, but i haven't noticed anything on my 8. i have about what- 5100 miles now?)
tnx

yup, car is back and driving without any problems....I just don't want to ruin this transmission because of clutch disengagement problems. The "Clutch Hard to Disengage" service bulletin (05-004/06) should fix this. I notified my service manager, but only was able to leave a message. I provided him the bulletin number so that he has something to refer back to.
With regards to Coils....it was obvious when you saw the dynos from So Cal Dyno day. I was really upset with my results, as I was anticipating being one of the higher cars. Those that did well, however, were those that recently replaced their coils and/or spark plug wires...regardless of other mods or whether they were stock vehicles. I don't think there is a way to tell when the coils are going bad...other than a dyno run. If they are gone...you'll know, you'll also have a CEL.

**cough cough*** you CAN test the coils...
Yeah, both Newcastle and I had new coil packs, wires, and plugs...definitely showed on the dyon's.
I was expecting Keith's car to dyno much higher then it actually did and it was obvious something wasn't right when his #'s came up.
Keith...when you do change the coil packs, you should consider doing another dyno pull (on the same dyno) to see if it helped.
Oh, and whenever you need help with that...just lemme know.

ah... i see. thanks for the info everyone.
i will ask the dealer to check the coils when i bring my car in for 7k mile service in a few months. it seems to drive ok atm, so i will just wait for the service to take care of it.

how does your car have just 5000 miles on it with driving san berdo and malibu a few times, another questison is why does someone buy a 30k car and not drive it everyday?
well, mainly 'cuz my commute is so brutal... there are no freeways close to robertson & beverly, so i do some pretty hectic local city driving to get to work everyday. (the riddled windshield on my bmw is proof.) it's always stressful & aggravating, and i just didn't want to associate that kind of feeling w/ the 8. so, i only drive it in only once a week- ie when i can wake up early and have ample time to get to work. it sucks, but preserves my sanity and makes me happy when i finally get to look forward to driving the 8.

I'm with ya. I only drive the car to work every now and then. its not that I dont enjoy the RX-8, but I do enjoy the gas milage of the Slowbalt. I also like knowing that I am "preserving" my car, keeping it with low milage. no dings, no dents. it shows in the retail price. mine is still worh 21k (Kelly blue book).
I know it sounds dumb, but like Detrich said, it makes you look forward to driving the RX-8. its a little "treat" when I get to drive it. if you drive it everyday it makes it a little less special.
but on the other hand I know that all sounds stupid. when you pay what ever outragious price you pay every month to just let the car sit and not drive it, none of that makes sence.
