Black and White 8's will be sold.
No Hyndai in my future...fits in there somewhere between Pontiac, Buick, and that Puegot 106 we drove in Germany....no thanks.
I believe base Lancer was in the range of 14,900...with the GTS being around 18,000? (this one has a body kit, 18 inch wheels, tech package....etc....not really necessary, but could be nice, right?)
Looking at the price of the Fit, compared to that of the 4 door Civic...it wouldn't make much sense to go with the smaller car. Honda's done much of what the other companies have done with their fuel economic cars....they've raised the price because the market is leaning towards fuel economy.
Look at the Toyota Corolla, which gets really good mileage, with its "Fit" sized sister, the Yaris. The mileage increases, but it is overpriced.
Jake, the part that kills the 8.....is the insurance and the gas costs. Also, have you tried to put anything big in the trunk. The opening is the restriction....
...in any event, we'll need to choose with a couple of things in mind. Heck, I had a Civic prior to owning the 8. The Civic was a bore to drive, but really should have been the car I kept for driving back and forth to work. I sold it just as gas started to make it's rise in 04. That was almost 4 years ago now...and my monthly gas bill has climbed from 80 bucks a month (with that Civic) to over 400 a month. (drive has remained the same).

The Mazda 6 is the 4-door family car. The RX8 is manageable with a young family past infant stage....3-10 year olds...once you go beyond this, you run into problems with room and storage needs. I know the back seats are nice in the 8, but really, you can't fit 4 adults in their comfortably...at least with the distance that I find comfortable with my knees and the dash. Its ok for short drives....but would you ever see taking it to Vegas....no way. After trying to get 4 adults squeezed in, where the heck do you put the luggage?

Mazda 3 looks alright....I detest the styling of the 4 door though....looks too much like the Toyota Corolla (which has to be due to a restyling here anytime soon)...which I don't like either.
Toyota will most likely bulk up the Corolla, as Honda did with the Civic since they released the Fit.
Erica and I really liked the Jetta, but that one started at 19,800....so, it's out of the price range. The reason we liked that, is that when you look at a Jetta, at least the new ones...you don't automatically assume 16 year old (like you would with a Civic or Sentra). I am tired of those days of being pulled over as a kid...getting harassed by cops for various, non-moving ticket violations.
I fear getting back into one of those cars and having to deal with those issues again.
The RX8 has never been considered a kid car.....but as the resale market falls on our beloved cars, more and mroe kids will fall behind the wheel and it may no longer be an adult sports car. Sad day for the 8 I believe when a 30 thousand dollar car gets into the hands of a 16 year old.

vw's are nice, but somewhat overpriced. given the lousy exchange rate, i'd steer clear of any euro vehicles right now- unless u want to lease.
for outright purchasing, domestic or japanese may be the best bang for the buck atm. we can all thank chimpanzee bush for that.

i like the current IS design ok- except they are freaking everywhere... i bet it'll be the same thing once the bmw m3 comes out as well...
call me a prude, but i hate how euro luxury car dealers have watered down the stigma attached to their names with how easy it is they make it to lease a vehicle. for a few thousand dollars down and about $500+ a month, anyone can lease a bmw, mercedes or what not.
what ever happened to pride of ownership and some exclusivity for those willing to save up to buy and own elite german engineering? the way things are now, every able-bodied teenager with rich parents or grandma puts around in a german luxury car. i know the car manufacturers love the $ they make, but it makes car enthusiasts like myself sick to my stomach.

sorry, I was raised to not lease, and to not buy used....sorry....
I don't want to inherit anyone else's problems....or buy a car that I would rely on getting me to and from work without any cause for concern. I need a new car, a warranty, and a 400 dollar monthly payment.
No need to lease a SUV, as we are getting one. Cars, to some point, are like buying a home...it is hard to get advice given that everyone has different needs.
It is interesting to see the different types of vehicles you guys are suggesting though.
Just got a call from the mother of the girl that looked at the truck last night. They are meeting me after work to pick it up. (ugggh, and I just put a full tank of gas in that sucker).

Ritualistically, you must burn all the gas AND tires on that truck.
and what is wrong with a used car? The extra $2000 you pay to keep up an older car is WAY less than the $10,000 extra you pay to get one new.

If you buy a Lancer..........
I know the owner who is the only one who makes turbos for it.
In a couple of years you can make it into a EVo.
That's what many kids do because the insurance is cheap.
However I would pick the Galant any day over a Lancer.
I think the ride look and interior quality is much better.
It's like going from a cheap econo car like the Lancer to a nice family Sedan.
Besides if you get a Lance you and Viper will have to rename the club to
Mitsolutions

MSRP on 2008 Galant:
MSRP: $19,899 - $26,999 (out of price range)
MSRP on 2008 Lancer:
MSRP: $13,990 - $18,590
I wouldn't do anything to the commuter/family car we get. I know this will be hard for me, as I have modified every vehicle I have owned. But if I can buy one I'm happy with from the dealership, that will be where it stays. There wont be much money to spend on fun things, at least on a car.
And the issue of buying new is the issue of warranty....knowing that you'll have everything covered, including towing. This is a big sense of security going into a stage in life where you have two incomes and the freedom to go spend 10 grand on a month in Europe...or a month in China, or a 14 day cruise around Italy and Greece. This is a different way of thinking, and in setting priorities. Having to not worry about your car expense is a big releif.
Buying a used car would give me none of that releif. Of course, the car would be cheaper, insurance would be cheaper, but it is the unknowns. I have gotten so frustrated lately with my RX Z88M. I think Casey and Erica are the only ones aware of what I am talking about...but I screwed myself with the aftermarket stuff I've done to my car, with respect to my extended warranty. It is just a big headache, you cant even walk in and have them check your car without charging you a hundred bucks. I won't even go into the last incident at this time.....
....the big thing about the Lancer is a 100,000 mile warranty, 10 years....that is a big sense of security, for an amount of time beyond what i would realistically keep the vehicle. Honda, Mazda, Toyota...all have cars I like as well...but only offer a 3 year, 36,000 warranty...which I would drive right through and past in less than 2 years.
