Casey didn't make it far into Miata version 3.4 before making another huge jump....

I think this version will be 4.0.....motor swap baby

Furai updates......car is awsome, I have a great tune for it....

bad news....it starts in the middle of r2 class (846) and can only go up to 848 or 917 (which places it at the bottom of r1 class). So, unfortunately the car will not be competitive

the miata would be a real sleeper if they dropped a ford 5.0L mustang V8 in it... not a cheap swap, but there's a shop in LA that specializes in doing those...

speaking of 'dream' mods... hypothetically, if i had a lot of $ to burn customizing a rx8, i think i'd have Galpin Motorsports start with a new 2010 GT + navi, add the R3 body kit, add the R3 suspension & other performances upgrades + the R3 wheels/ tires, install custom black/ yellow leather interior upholster- including the two-tone steering wheel, paint the exterior 2004 Lightning Yellow, upgrade the speakers/ sound system, lightly tint the windows, and, then i'd be... hmm, maybe i should've gone with the R3 aurora blue mica... :P

Speed had the '99 engine in the car because that motor does not have Variable Timing..and the 99 is the strongest motor to put in a 90 chassis that only requires a wire harness conversion. To run the ideal engine, the 2001 motor, you would need to purchase a stand alone engine management system and fully tune the car....

...Speed now has the AEM engine management system, which was a HUGE investment in terms of money and time in tuning..Scotty from the Rx7 group has been a huge help with this. The AEM unit ended up being more than 3 engines in cost......

...so now, with the AEM unit, we now are able to swap any engine into the car, and found a good price on an 01 engine with less than 47k miles on it.

Speed thinks that he could actually sell the 99 engine and still have money in his pocket for more goodies with the price we found on the 01 engine.

Of course, this means a long day in the garage swapping an engine..and then more time running wires and tuning a new engine. But the Horse Power gains could be upwards of 60 hp I believe...and on a car that currently has about 110hp......you can see that this would make a significant difference to the characteristics of the car.

Don't know if my numbers are accurate, Speed has done the research and probably has more accurate numbers, but this is what I recall from hearing him talk about the engine swap with others who already have the 01 engine.

...and Speed called me yesterday, he went through all the upgrades on the car, and says that the new version will be version 7.0. We need like a filmogrophy on the cars history.....a trip down memory lane.

I hit 64,000 on wednesday.

keith: sounds like lots of work in your future but it should be worth the effort now that you have the AEM management system. time for max POWAH!

i'm sure u guys thought of it, but what about putting a Renesis 1 or 2 in the Miata? LionZoo said something about that being a very feasible undertaking...

rotary swap would be reasonable, and I've seen it done.

We would no longer be in CSP (C-Street Prepared) because the engine and chassis need to match, both need to be Miata.

Now, in CP (C-Prepared), your chassis and engine have to be of the same manufactorer....Mazda chassis, mazda engine. So a rotary engine in a miata, very doable..and would be fun. And if I am thinking of the classes correctly, I beleive in CP, you could do extensive weight reduction mods like completely remove the front windsheild and windsheild pillars. (of course you would then need to install a roll bar....but crazy looking Mazda though fo sure).

If you want to go crazy and put a Mustang 5.0L in a Miata, would move up to the furthest class possible for C-class....CM (C Modified). At that point, you could do anything you wanted to the car.

I imagine the cost of putting a Reni engine into the Miata would outweigh the benefits.
Fortunately Miata engines are quite inexpensive so you guys can have tons of fun upgrading those

Have you looked into Renesis swaps? I've always wanted to do one into my FC but as of now they are more expensive to swap than 20B's, 13B-RE's, etc.

Maybe once more RX-8s crash and older RX-7s get more smog exempt in places like CA, Renesis swaps will become more common.

He's in a hurry when he posts. You need to "magive" him a break.
