The official 626 SGV Meet Thread!!!!!!!!!!
So now that we had this previous run, I'm wondering if anyone would possibly be interested in an overnight run in the future. This isn't going to happen anytime soon, I'm actually thinking summer 2009 will probably be the earliest, but it would basically be a run where we will stay at some place overnight. It's going to be a lot of driving, but it would allow us to see parts of California that we can't see for a run that's just a few hours long. Maybe I can talk to the Bay Area people and perhaps have a set meeting place somewhere in the middle of California to turn this into more of an event, or maybe it'll just be a drive for a drive's sake. There are some seriously good roads in the Sierra Nevadas!
No jerry I won't forget your name lol. Don't some cameras have that fuction. That correct shakey hands or is that a video editing program? The video should be fine as long as we can watch something next meet.
My mom has a digital camcorder, but
I'm clueless as how to work it... I'll have to look into that and possibly getting a dash mount for it. I certainly have the right computer for editing video now. Hehehe. :P

dumb question... But if you're already going say 65 or 70 & down shift to 3, do guys get any pull at all? I felt like my car had no passing power at all- the revs are higher & there's a little pull, but nothing near what I would call real power... I always knew that was the issue with the rx8, but It seemed more noticeable this Saturday. Just wondering

hmm... i thought i was doing 60 or 75 in 4th, so easily into 6k territory.... going down to 3 helped, but it wouldn't be enough to pass someone in the twisties if i needed full-on explosive power... well, the 8 doesn't have that kinda power anyways. so, that's why i think it's normal i guess?
maybe i'm just not used to driving my car at the limits- ie keeping the rpm's at the 8500 range... well, a couple more of these kinda runs, and i'll figure it out i guess...

klein!
awesome drive
if only someone had a nice video of the 2nd part... that was a fun de-carbonizing procedure for me on saturday. oil temps only saw 220 as we slowed down and pulled off, where i topped off on oil. but it was nowhere near 200 during the drive.
great timing. best time of the season to drive, and roxy pulled beautifully.
i'll bring the camcorder next meet and we can see the run together.

mine were always at their normal spots:
engine temp needle just below 1/2 way
oil temp needle just past 1/2 way
never seems to move or change once the engine is warmed up... but that's a good thing right? <shrugs>

Well keep in mind I have some minor cooling mods; the Mazsport fan mod, the Mazmart water pump, and a much more aggressive coolant mixture.
fully topped off on oil when i got home. i was more than 1/2 qt low even after adding some during the run.
and yeah, the temp needle was running about 160(oil) during the slow cruise.
gerry: you needn't be overly worried. for the most part you top off and do occasional runs like this, oem gauges are adequate. having aftermarkets just mean more work to always have that on the back of your mind to be running at the desired range...

stock gauges dont really do anything
comparing my coolant gauge with stock water temp gauge, the factory one moves to its normal position wayy before it should be, and once its there it stays there.
but in honesty i think gauges just make you drive slower
