Oil change
Anyone can suggest where they take in their cars to get an oil change? I made an appointment with Courtesy Mazda but any local independent shops that do this? Please let me know thanks.

I don't have time to do it myself I own my own business which takes up about 60 hours of my week and my time is restricted and weekends are usually packed for even more work.
Besides I have no idea how to do it on a rotary. I've owned BMW's, Audi's and Toyota's. I do not want to mess up this car lol.

It is no different than any other car. Just take out the drain plug and wait til the oil stops dripping, then remove the filter and let that drip. Replace filter, then the drain plug with a new crush washer if you have it and fill with the same amount of oil you took out. It is a little more involved with a 09+ car because you have to remove a metal pan but I don't think that's needed for the older ones. I keep an empty 5 quart jug on hand so I know exactly how much I need to put in by filling it with the used oil. Generally I get like ~4.5 quarts out.
I would take it to the dealership up north and not to courtesy if you really do not want to change it yourself. Centennial Mazda 6525 Centennial Center Blvd 89149 phone#702-784-1100, it has some decent people working there but never had my oil changed there. The main reason to change it yourself is you can know its done right and you can also put whatever weight oil in you want. If you get it done there I think you are limited to 5w20, when I took it to courtesy they offered to do 5w30 but at a $10 increase in price lol.

LoL wow a lot of criticism. I didn't expect a lot of negative sarcasm in this LV forum especially since I just got this car. Not everyone does their own oil changes, especially for a car I'm not familiar with, so why criticize and badger someone because of that question?? Try working 60-80 hr work week and see if you want to do things at home when you're trying to relax.

can't speak for anyone else but my comments were not negetive sarcasm ... it was just sarcasm lmao ... it's super easy to change the oil ... now if you'd like your more then welcome to come by one weekend and you can do with at least someone with you ... or catch one of Phils8 "wrench meets"
now as far as time ... well your preaching to the choir ... there are many of us putting in as much or more hours a week .... and .... are married ..... have kids ... have grand kids ... club websites to tend to ... hold wrench meets ... working on their rides ... helping others with theirs ... etc ... etc .... so it's easier to bust ya nuts then start with a "mine is bigger convo" lol
hope you took that in the light hearted manner in which was intended
note: if you need help or are unsure of something and don't want to mess up your car ... just ask ... it's a pretty helpful bunch ...

I think the next tier price is 6 oil changes for ~$76. I have never bought any of those packages so I'm not sure how they work exactly. Do you have to get an oil change within a certain time period or is it actually at any time you want with no restrictions?

Hay add my business and GREAT grand kids to that list. Do you have kids that can change your oil? I would be more that happy to teach them the proper way and also show them all the other fluids that should also be checked. I was hoping to have a wrench meet before Seven Stock.
sorry I missed those ... but now you dated yourself lol
Yes I plan on holding one or two SinCityRotary wrench meets myself before the trip to Sevenstock ... but the wife recieved news yesterday her uncle past way ... so not sure about this weekend yet

Well for me I have to go through the bottom of the car and its on the side of the engine at the bottom. The location is bad because even if I were to buy an oil pump and just suck it out I still have to crawl under there to remove the filter. I forgot the location is different for s1 cars.

I am talking about s1 rx8's. From all the pictures I have seen their oil filter is definitely in a different location than mine, unless I have only seen relocation kit pictures.

Well the location for the oil filter on stock cars is a little difficult to explain. If the car is a manual transmission, a little tight, not to easy to reach, but acceptable. The A/T version requires the hands of a 7 year old . If you don't mind parting with about $50.00 you can always get a oil relocation kit and put the filter in a easy to get to spot.

hope that helps

Phil it is recommended to not use an oil filter relocation kit on 09+ rx8s or I definitely would. Something to do with oil pressure and that Mazda relocated the filter to be very close to the pump for a reason.
I wish mine was on top and that easy to get to. Would make an oil change so much easier since I wouldn't have to take off the metal plate on the bottom of the car. Took me a little while to find this picture but this is where mine is.
