Early 2013 i pulled my engine and paid turblown for goopy apex seals, coatings, porting, and rebuild. Early 2014 i got it back. I reinstalled it and changed my oil every 500 miles or so for break in. My oil had a lot of metal shavings in it. I didn't think much about it at the time. Drove it for the summer put less than 3000 miles on it. I parked it for the winter. Went to pull it out last year and it wouldn't run. The engine was toast. Tried to make contact with Elliot White but I got no response.

that sucks op but at least you got 550whp out of the box right? sry i had to. really a year to rebuild the engine? im sure if 9k sees this after his 2nd vacation in a short time it will lead to a perma ban

 

Thanks for the support, yeah it was around a year give or take a few months. I sent many emails and phone calls asking when it would be done. Every timeframe I was given was missed.

 

Thanks for the support. Yeah it was around a year maybe more. 3/27/13 he recieved my engine, 3/30/13 i paid my down payment, 8/13/13 i paid for the rest. I believe it was spring 2014 that i recieved it. I will try tracking down the return shipping information.

That looks like an oil system failure. All the bearings are shot. Has the oil pump failed? What was your oil pressure like?

 

The oil pump was re-used and ceramic coated. When it was removed from the engine, the coating was gone and sanding marks on the pump gear were visible.

From looking at it, the pump gear was block sanded down so the ceramic coating could be applied. I don't believe any real measurements were taken to ensure correct clearances.

Also all main and rotor gears were ceramic coated. I don't believe the bearing to shaft clearance was adjusted to compensate for the additional film thickness of the ceramic coating.

The tight bearing to shaft clearance generated heat oil breakdown, eventually dry friction and bearing to shaft metal on metal friction causing bearing failure.

It was built to fail from the start based on amateur engine building practices.

Its mind boggling how people that produce this type of work can still be in business

 

Hard to say what caused that... Oil related for sure but which part of the oil system failed is the question.

 

Why were the coatings placed? Were you looking for something specific or was this recommended by Turblown?

 

It was a performance package I asked for. Based on the information i read from his website. Increase thermal efficiency, engine life, lower friction, more power, better gas mileage, lower emissions, increased compression, less carbon buildup.

 

Here is more info i bought my 04 rx8 on 3-28-12 with 63,738 miles. Promptly installed a sohn and started premix every tank. Installed bhr ignition, and racing beat exhaust. Drove a few months and took it in for a compression test because i wanted to take advantage of the extended warranty. My compression was low but i missed the warranty by about 2 weeks. Saved for a while and pulled the engine at 69,070 miles in February 2013. Shipped it out 3-25-13. Got it back in spring 2014 installed the engine and started driving it 5-1-13. Changed the oil/filter 6 times in the first 2000 miles, keeping it under 5k rpm for break in. After 2k i drove normally. October 2014 I stored it. May 2015 changed my plugs (i do every spring) and went to pull it out and it wouldnt idle. Thats where it dies 72,060 miles.

 

Lol, i love that thing. It made a huge difference. I highly recommend it. I'm a big BHR fan.

 

Well, well, well. Sad to say man, but these type of people never change so I am not surprised.

A buddy of mine just recently got a partial refund from Turdblown after years of fighting and is still stuck with the sub par unfinished parts they refuse to take back. So he is out the funds and has to pay someone else to get his FD sorted.

let us know what BS excuses Elliot comes up with (if he responds at all it will probably be thru his lackey Sean), he likes to use the same ones for everyone.

 

Paid Turblown $4274 for new housings, goopy apex seals, rebuild kit, coatings, studs, porting, and oil pressure mods. I recieved porting, studs, and coatings. All other parts I recieved were used, oil pressure mods were not performed, goopy apex seals not installed, and rotor housings not replaced. Now my rotors, housings, e-shaft, front gear, rear gear, and oil pump were destroyed. I'm paying to replace all the parts that got destroyed and rebuild it right. FYI I NEVER lost oil pressure or overheated. At the very least I hope that someone will look at my experience and think twice about using Turblown. I went from having a running car with slightly low compression to a pretty paperweight in two years one of which my engine was at Turblown. Now I'm out the $4274 plus another $4907 get it running again. Thanks to all for the support and as of right now I have no more to post.

 

That freaking blows.... Sorry to hear this. Can you go after him for the parts you paid for and never rec'd?

 

Why are you out $4907 to get it running again? Are you buying all new oem parts from mazda as replacements? That seems like an awfully high bill. I think you could build a block from almost completely new parts for that much money.

 

Buddy of mine just got a partial refund from those PEOPLE after years and it took a crap load of social media hounding and pressure from him to even get that little bit which was nothing in the scheme of things. These guys (Turdblown) are truly despicable people. But it's so easy for them to be because most who get ripped off just feel it is a hopeless battle and just move on with their lives.

I got a reply from turblown on june 27th 45 days after I emailed them. Saying they looked at my build file and there were no bearing issues. I sent pictures of the damage and got no reply in over 2 weeks. I asked them to produce a copy of my build file. I have my car back with a new engine in it. The builder I used was disgusted at the build quality of Turblown. He said it was put together using all used parts with over 70k miles on them. Not a single piece of the engine was new. He said they took my money and gave me my engine right back with only the coatings done, stud kit and a small street port. I got the coatings and stud kit that Elliot White recommended. The builder said I did nothing wrong and all the fault lies with turblown.

 

My engine now is bridge ported, double scalloped rotors, lightened rotors, 2mm edm slots, clearanced, race balanced. Racing beat header, midpipe, race muffler, light flywheel, coolant lines, oil cooler lines, and intake. Koyo radiator, 340lph fuel pump, BHR ignition, Greddy oil pan, RE-medy water pump, mazda maniac tuned. So far. I will never give up this car it's my baby, my girl says I love it more than her lol

 

This is typical, not once has Elliot ever owned up to his screw ups, and taken responsibility. The only time they have ever refunded anyone for shoddy work was when they were forced to. I paid $900.00 to have a compressor wheel installed and to have my turbine housing and manifold spray painted. And they didn't even do the work, they sent it to comp turbo and then they sent it back to me without any of the custom machining done or other work done that Turdblown was supposed to do.

But all these scumbag vendors are the same and as long as others support them and as a result feed them new customers, nothing will change.
