ONLY USE GENUINE Mazda OIL FILTERS in Series II (R3)
#126
Thanks a lot for the reply. I see that it has more pressure and is superior against s1 models. Only asking if it’s valid to use it or no. Just to be informed before to buy it or staying S1.
kind regards.

With the higher pressure mods I'd do the S2 filter, no doubt. Even on a stock S1, I'd do the S2 filter.
The only downside is that if the filter clogs, you'll have more pressure drop before it opens. Just don't let the filter clog (would be hard to do unless you destroyed the engine, but still)

Yup, same. The filters are inexpensive enough and worth saving the engine. The engine that came in my car had failing bearings, so I'm really being cautious with the new engine!

JEEZ, and as pointed out WHEN the FILTER ages (with USE) and becomes restricted-blocked the BY Pass will Permanently STAY OPEN and oil will not be filtered.
THE point of this THREAD is so S2 Owners USE THE CORRECT OIL FILTER as the Series 1 has a different rating for BY PASS (VALVE/SPRING/PLATE) in a smaller oil filter
and also has a different Oil PUMP that Mazda claims runs at a lower pressure @3000RPM to the S2 ALL NEW OIL PUMP @3000RPM.
Why would Mazda get made a brand new Oil Filter that is not the same as any other Mazda ever made and has the highest BY PASS of any Oil Filter
they have used in ANY Mazda gasoline car.
YES, you can basically use any oil filter cartridge if it fits and does not leak and it will work and you change it when you are supposed to, to a point.
It is when Owners do not service car regularly and or change oil filter regularly and or it is at end of normal service life, not filtering any engine oil because
cartridge is restricted or blocked and into by pass is not good for any engine.
IF you cant comprehend the differences good luck to you.
