Series II oil filter install question

So i know from experience that oil filter usually are hand tightened.

I was just browsing to the service manual and says use a special tool to install the Oil Filter and tighten to 100-130 Flbs of torque?

I know series 2's have higher oil pressure but is this really necessary?

You mean in-lb, right? For reference, 100 ft-lb is about how tight your wheel lug nuts should be.

When I did it last time, I just used my hand to tighten it, and everything is just fine. I have, however, obtained a proper oil filter wrench, just so I can do it more properly.

I tighten it the same as my other vehicles - wait for the rubber gasket to contact, then 3/4 turn. Never have had a leak on any vehicle including my S2 RX-8.
