i didn't have any issue with the 04 oem clutch pedal, with stage 2 clutch. i pulled the trigger around 65K miles, i bought the reinforcment bracket anyway. for peace of mind it's cheaper than guessing when it will break on me. too bad madza took this long before sending out the recall notice for the clutch pedal.

I got this "recall" letter from the PO of my 2004.

Covers 04-09 cars. October, 2010

2004-2009 RX-8 Clutch Pedal Assembly Warranty Extension Program
Special Service Program (SSP) 82

Extends warrantee on clutch bracket 96mo or 100,000mi same as the engines.

Looking for a "crack" causing abnormal noise.

"If your vehicle is functioning normally there is no need to contact the Dealer."

"If you have all ready paid for the replacement of the clutch pedal assembly due to a problem with the clutchpedal bracket, you may be eligible for reimbursement of reasonable repair expenses based on Mazda's repair standards. Please complete the enclosed "Reimbursement Application Form"....."

Preaddressed envelope is included.

It is an "Inspection" recall if your clutch pedal is noisy.

Dealer discretion as to replacement. They said mine is "fine" and didn't do anything with it.

So if you are going in for any service they will check it even without the letter.

Don't expect an automatic upgrade.

If you've all ready fixed it you can possibly get reimbursed if you meet all 8 of the requirements and file the correct form.

Then as far as I know and are concerned it is not a real RECALL.

A recall is when it is mandatory to return a car to manufacturer/dealer for INSPECTION.

This is not the case.

I wonder if the bracket can get rid of the side to side movement.
mine pedal is fine but I like it to be no side to side movement.

The reinforcement bracket does reduce the side to side movement and stiffens the entire feel of the clutch.
