Series II ECU Tuning

Even then getting a serious number is very difficult. Whenever you do a poll about something like this lots of people are more than ready to say "yes I would buy that" but only a few of those people would actually put up the money for it.
I personally don't plan on getting a tune anytime in the near future even if it were available. I am just going to get a midpipe and a catback and call it good.

I think the biggest turn off is the fact that it is a remote tuning service. I hate the idea that if I make any changes to my car, I cant just modify my flash to get a good tune, and that I have to actually ship out my ecu time after time. Or like 9k said, I cant easily mask a CEL to run some tests or to perform more advanced modifications like removing the air pump, etc.
There are some aftermarket shops that have the CARDAQ+.

This solution is not ideal but it might be your only realistic option. Besides, someone should do it just to see if there are any power gains at all. I vote Paimon to be the Guinea Pig for you S2 guys.

9k on the sidewalk ...
Hey if you guys want to donate some paypal money towards it I would be more than willing lol
edit: although I am not too sure I would be a valuable candidate since there are no power mods on my car . Be nice to see someone with a nice exhaust setup or something
I am willing to throw down 25-50 bucks towards the cause for someone with a good setup to try it out

Heres a question, Im friends with the dealership owner here, and the have banners and stuff on how they have the #1 mazda technician, do you think he could throw something together. Just a thought?

Sorry man, but most techs at the dealer don't know much let alone anything about custom tuning, flashing, hardware, software coding, etc. It is very complicated stuff (for most).

Must be Mark W. He is good! If you know him, tell him Jack says hi from SF, California! Small world!
Anyway, back on topic, yeah doubt Mazda will teach the techs or even some of their employess how to modify their software. The factory scan tool will only allow programming of the PCM calibration files without actually having access to them. It's pretty straight foward. It downloads a file from the internet and the prompts you to install it. There is nothing you can really do with it unless you know hack it. I don't think any tech wants to risk ruining the dealership laptop/scan tool if they don't own it themselves.
I'm not interested either in tuning my S2 at the moment. I have a race car already to spend all of the little money that I have. Unless down the years I switch to an RX-8 but I probably just run a standalone.

Perhaps the best thing would be to wait and see if Tactrix follows through on their goal of supporting Mazdas. They probably will not be reverse-engineering many ECUs to start with, but if there is good dumping/flashing/logging/editing software, a relatively cheap hardware solution, and all that is needed is an XML ROM definition, that would actually be worth investing the time in.

I used ECUFlash for my Evo. It was easy to use, very reliable, and super fast. I'm almost positive that the program won't recognize the ECU correctly without the correct directory look-up...(which will populate with the correct tables)..that would only take about a month for an engineer to do. Someone way smarter than I in that sense.
What I do know is that there are XML files used as raw data, and ROM files used as a program on the ECU. The locations within the directory of both of which will have to be included on ECUFlash's lookup tables in order to populate the correct data onto the correct editable frames on the GUI. We went through this when I had a 2001 Auto-Sporty Eclipse. A few people at Club3G.com worked together to create XML and ROM file look-up tables in order to read +100% Load (for turbo applications). It took a good while for lack of support for the car, but ended up becoming very popular.

I actually sent dynotronics a pm, and an e-mail letting them know I would gladly send them my ecu as long as the downtime is no more than 7 days. I asked them for a free flash because I would like to see the improvements in the stock setup before I install a headerback exhaust from turbo xs. If I am happy with the reflash I let them know I will pay for another reflash when the parts are installed.

The Michigan "WANKEL"
I would still like to know why the guy from DPTune stopped communicating with me. I had even spoken with him on the phone. The last I heard he was going to lend me the data logging device to use. He had to order a couple more because people apparently decided to buy them once they had them. Once they came in, he was going to send me one. That was the last I heard. We had also communicated via email several times, but after that, I got nothing. I have not called him back, but like I said, I was already on the fence about whether I was ready to take this step with a relatively new RX-8, anyway. I'm guessing, based on what was posted in this thread, that someone's already taken him up on the first free tune.
I don't have a problem with the "tune via mail" thing, but that's because my RX-8 is not my daily driver. If it were, I wouldn't likely go that route.

I only asked for a free flash because as far as I know thats what was offerred in one of the threads. I dont think anyone took them up on that offer yet, or has gone through the process. I am skeptical about the increase they suggest but also kind of excited. Free or not, Im just to curious to pass this up. I really hope they are the real deal so us s2 guys can finally have a way to tune our cars.

I also read about Esmeril claiming they have tuning options for the s2. There description is extremely vauge, but I guess thats because they dont want others to compete? I will contact them this week and find out more about the "tuning" they are talking about.

There is an option of a standalone piggybacking the stock computer. Or are you only looking for a reflash? If so I doubt you'll see a product for a very long time if ever on a reflash. For reasons stated earlier in this thread.
