Can you tell me the easiest way about this without me having to read the whole thread?

I'm not at all sure if that is relevant here.

I see now he didn't say he has RB software. Throwback Thurs!

Really haven't heard too much from folks that own VT (i think there are just a few if any still around). Plenty ME users here though. Does everything you need.

Awesome, im trying to find it in the group buy section for an official link on where to get ME, tried a few google searches, not trusting it lol doing some more digging around till i find it. glad that ME is working great for S2's :D

EDIT: Should i get it from epifanSoftware? the personal version? from what ive seen that is what most of you are using, can anyone confirm so i know its not a scam or something, also could i get a quick tip on the dongle that works the best with ME, is it the Tactrix one? i can search myself, just being a little lazy at the moment :/

I just pulled the trigger and ordered VersaTuner myself. I know I'm one of few, but it looks like a friendly interface with great support. I'm looking forward to tinkering with it.

Mutaku,
Versa is really nice, but MazdaEdit is being used more. From what I've read about responses from Mazedit, the support is 50/50, but seems to have gotten better. Also there's more Forurm Support here.

My personal experience with Versa, is pretty good. They usually respond via email with in 1-2days. Only catch, if something needs to be changed/updated, they'll wait till they're next 'platform update'... hope that makes sense. Unless, somehow your Install is broken, then they try to fix it for you right away.

Thanks for the info. Just glad to have options for tuning a series II now.

I've had good experience with Versatuner. I had a major issue with it when I got it and they told me my car's ECU program was unlike any of the others they'd seen. I received a new version a few days later. I have a couple of less urgent issues I need to e-mail them about, but for the most part, it works pretty well and they seem pretty dedicated to making sure it does.

I can't speak for the quality of Mazdaedit, but I hated to see the guys at Versatune make what appeared to be a quality product for our cars and hardly anyone would buy it because they wanted to stick with what everyone else already had, even if that may be inferior. I was content to separate from the herd and become one of the few to try it, and I haven't regretted it.

I don't think you'll have an issue with a lack of support. For the most part, when someone describes how to do something in Mazdaedit, it's pretty easy to figure out the equivalent in Versatuner. If it is something really specific to Versatuner, then you can probably get some help on their forums. I would say go with whichever looks more appealing to you and don't worry so much about a lack of support.

If you have any specific questions about the software, I can probably answer them.

How about adaptronics? I know turblown uses it with there s2 kit anyone have experience with that? I'd rather not deal with other car functions being wonky with a piggyback.

^Mazdaedit and Versatuner are both flash utilities. They use the oem ecu, modify the various tables in that, and don't require any hardware.

What measurable/felt gains do you feel have you gotten from your tune? I'm not just asking about HP, but MPG, responsiveness, etc. What are you specifically tuning for?

I'm considering a tune right now, as my R3 has been running quite rich lately, and I'd like to try and see if I can tune that out.

I haven't really had one specific thing in mind above everything else when tuning it. I consider performance, economy, and reliability when adjusting something. Actually, economy probably comes last. I have a motorcycle and another car to help with that, but I would try to raise it if not at the cost of something else.

So far, I haven't felt a change in power or noted a significant change in economy, but I wasn't really expecting to. I've gotten sidetracked from tuning it and haven't finished, but when I do, I may have it dynoed to see how well I did.

The biggest change I've made to it so far is to the throttle map. I wanted to make the throttle less touchy but not lose anything at WOT. I copied all the values to a spreadsheet and worked on a mathematical function where the minimum and maximum would remain the same, but everything in between would be lower. It worked out very well. The catch is the car feels a little more sluggish even though it's not, but it's a lot easier to drive now.

I've also played with the oil injection some. A few days ago, I bumped it up to 160% and now the exhaust is starting to look a little smoky. I'll probably turn it back down to 140% when I get around to it.

I've made some adjustments to the fuel injection as well. I never finished and it's far from perfect, but it's better than where it started out. That's on my to do list.

I mainly bought it to disable the P2270 CEL and just to play around with it and learn more about how the ECU works. I'm not looking to turn the car into a fire breathing dragon, just personalize it to my taste.

Mine started spitting fire after the narrowband was replaced,go figure?

I am on the Fence with Versa vs ME. I am completely on the ME side, but just worried about the process. Pretty excited either way. Anyone regretted one way or the other? So far it looks like everyone has been quiet, and usually people are quick to bitch if something doesn't work right. (faster than reporting it works)

I mainly want to get my car to run the way a Rotary is meant to run. We didn't buy them to save the planet. Hell the batteries in the Prius do more damage to the planet before you drive them off the lot so **** it.

I was more asking if there was any benefit between a piggyback over these flash units.

My research shows this so far. The Haltech is better for if you are going to go crazy and want tighter boost control, but it is at the cost of making your own harness adapter if you wish to go back to OEM. You also will not be able to pass inspection, but if you keep the harness Plug and Play, no big deal, swap back do 100 miles...done. There may be a few special things to rig up, but it is possible. With a piggyback your asking for trouble.

If it is not hardwired or uses one of those piggyback fuckhouse connectors, just go kick your car, hit it with a hammer, dump fuel on it, rape the tailpipe, and jizz in the headlights. Plug and Play piggybacks are the worst idea ever. Either tap the wires, or go all out replacement. Never try and use one of those "piggyback" connectors.

It is also possible to do quite a bit with the OEM PCM on the S2, just newer territory. If you ever visit a dealer, go flash, if you do everything yourself, do Aftermarket ECU. You can leave the OEM ECU plugged in if you adapt the OE plug and just remove the pins that you want to control, but most of it is CANBUS, so it just makes it harder.

Shortversion, go with a flash tuning solution unless you plan on going insane.
