Cool, Sounds Great. give the ECU a bit of time to adjust the fuel trims before the dyno.

Slight change in plans .... going to Data log real quick before throwing up on dyno so we can see if things are where we want them to be or if it can be leaned out a bit more. Will let you know results , prob going to do this monday weather permitting .

Here's a little update ....

according to new data that we logged after this last tune .... Rev limiter got bumped up to 9400 rmp and he WAS able to change the A/F ratio closer to 13 except for the end range close to 9 k rpms which he's going to adjust to get up where we want it. Was also able to adjust throttle. Car def feels quicker. Probably going to send back for one more adjustment on upper rmp A/F ratio and i think we'll be set. After that i'll bring to dyno and see where we're at. So some good news it looks like

Do you drive an auto, or did they change the limit on the manual S2? I have a good bit of experience hitting the rev limit in my previous manual S1 and it was right around 9500rpm, my auto S2 is right around 8500...

(Granted it only goes to 9000 <--- lol)

What was your rev limiter hitting before then? (I would have thought it would already be around 9400-9500) Does anyone know if the limiter was changed from the S1 to S2? Your stats seem like what it should already be, ie not a bump.

the rev limiter isn't 9400\9500 rpms on the stock tune on both the s1 and s2.

The factory rev limit is 9000 on all North American models.
That is 9300 - 9700 displayed on the dash.

Ah, that explains the difference then. I didn't realize the dash didn't display exactly what the car's limit was.

Well, yes and no.

I've learned quite a bit and have a handle on what would need to be done, but at this time the solution looks like a stand-alone of some sort which, for most people, is not a good solution (since it will set off the check-engine light, making it impossible to be emissions-compliant).

I am still hopeful, though.

MM,

Thanks for the update and for looking into this. I know there are no guarantees, but certainly I am hopeful.

Right .... factory is 9k .... after one more data logging sending ecu back one more time ... wants to trim a little bit more fuel off top end.

So once i get it back should be all set .... going to be difficult to get back on the dyno though since the weathers getting real shitty but going to try my best. Hopefully I can get a decent day to drive it out and throw it on real quick once i get it back.

This is interesting. I, like Jeff, remain hopefull.

Jeff--Tell us more about your thoughts on the stand-alone. I, for one, wouldn't care much about the CEL--epsecially if I wound up going catless exhaust, and even FI someday. Couldn't the code be cleared or "masked" to prevent the light from actually coming on?

Got the ecu back after the 2nd tune adjustment since i posted the last dyno. I took it to the dyno today, not liking the results and neither are any of you. Basically no changes at all after sending this thing to him 3 times, the last 2 were with data logger numbers from the data logger he sent to me. As you can see, virtually no HP or torque gains and the A/F ratio actually got richer instead of leaner. We were aiming for leaning it out, he claimed that the data logger showed it had leaned out but i couldn't see those numbers. Anyway, I had the same exact guy running the dyno each and every time I ran one with a Dyno jet using the same load, etc. Only variable would be the temp / humidity but the dynojet is supposed to accounty for that to some degree. He wanted me to log again and send back to him .... however , I'm not going to. Clearly this is not going to work . I was going to send back if i saw SOME results, but nothing. Maybe this would work if i had the car with him on a dyno for him to tune, as he has obviously cracked the ecu because even the dyno guy today said the rev limiter had been raised, but he's not changing anything by mailing it back and forth .... and i'm not driving it to texas to find out At any rate, here 's the dyno .... Green line represents the last run i did before the last 2 tunes with a datalogger. This was the one i actually posted here after the first tune. The red and blue runs are from today.

It would be nice to see what Jeff can do with their software.

I would love to see jeff give this a shot if he is able at some point. So frutstrating .... I'm told Pettit racing has a flash option, i may check them out. Not sure if there's another option at this point . Has anyone given them a try or no ?

I can see it now - must have been the IPad that didn't show it.

The green AFR line looks leaner than the other two. When did that one happen? I had it too where a leaner run didn't give better HP. With the RB software and cat delete, my HP gain was above 8,000 rpm. I realize that was a generic tune, but it was nicely leaner throughout. So I think there are secrets beyond AFR that take time to find.

Exactly .... the green was from the last run before the 2 most recent tunes, lol , and he said that he actually leaned it out ? The most recent dyno shows the opposit so I don't know. It did pick up 3 extra hp, but only at the very top end which i could really careless about. I don't plan on driving too much in the 8000 rpm range. I'm sure there are some other things that are adjusted that aren't shown on the dyno.... throttle, rev limiter, etc .... but it's just not yielding any results for me after 3 tunes. Like i said, may be totally different if i had the car there with him on the dyno ..... but he claimed that it wouldn't make any difference other than time.

Well, this all but seals my fate in not opting for another RX8. Ill prolly drive mine until I find the "right" 135i.

This really disappoints. Props to bcdjudo7 for taking a stab at it. Just not enough demand/performance left on the table for any tuners to bother. Damn.

I am not Jeff, but a Haltech is an option. The problem is that I could not find anywhere to source the connectors for the ECU in order to make a patch harness. Because at this point your factory harness would have to be cut allowing the Haltech to be patched in, but you would have full control over ignition, timing and any other features you wanted to use. It really opens the platform up for more possibilities.

If someone really wants to try feel free to hit me up. Again the problem I am having is creating a patch harness. IF there is someone who wants or can figure out where to source connectors I am all in for helping you guys create a system to tune series 2 cars. I just have not had anyone who wants to cut the factory harness and void their warranty, and is why I have not further posted in this thread.

Great. Another lead that keeps me interested the the RX8. If nothing else, I guess that my constant following of this thread is a testament to my appreciatin for what the 8 is (well, could/should be).

Crazy that I don't even OWN a S2--it's the development of a legitamate tuning option that would sway me back into buying one. I have to believe that someone on this thread has a nearly out of warranty S2 and/or can source the connectors.

I wonder how many S2 owners even come to this site anymore given the fact that there is practically nothing to talk about pertaining to performance/worthwhile modifications...
