for giggles I put my 18x11.5 +42.7mm wheels on my rx8 from my rx7 with 285/30/18 tires. It fits and I do get an ever so slight rub in the rear, I mean the fender lip just grazes the tire on big bumps. The car is not slammed but is lowered on Ohlins dfv. The handling is much better than my 18x9.5 2454018 R-S3 tires. The 285's are re-11 tires.
The wider the wheel with a slight stretch of the tire does wonders for grip and handling. I do think the wheel might touch the control arm at full lock, but I am not going to try it moving. a safer bet would probably be a 18x11 +45mmish offset or a 18x10.5 +47mm would be a good one. run a 265/35/18 or 275/35/18 if you want to stay stockish tire diameter, the gearing seems a little better with a shorter tire.
Looking at some 17" rims that I would be using on a track car. It appears that 245/45-R17 and 245/50-R17 are a little wider and about the same height. Anyone running 17's that can comment on what works well? Rims are 17x8 +45.
How about 17x9-9.5 up front with 255-275 and a 17x10.5 rear with a 315-35-17
17's specifically because i want to retain a good amount of suspension travel, while also keeping the unsprung weight down....
I have a similar setup for my 3000GT that is +27mm offset that I test fitted - Way too much poke for my liking, specifically in the rear.
Can I stuff a 315 in the rear on a 10.5 without more than a mild fender roll? Un-needed Negative camber just to tuck the wheels in more is not for me - so that does not count...
I'll keep reading back to see if I find anything like it, but most of these seem to be Show-Fitment based setups so far. I do alot of canyon like street driving, and I plan to have about 400whp or so from a NA 3 Rotor unless I have a really good year and feel like having a watered down 4 Rotor stuffed in my RX-8 (Don't judge)
Hey ya'll.. New to the forum and the rx8 community. So I'm getting an 05' Shinka this weekend and unfortunately the owner doesn't have winter tires on and I live in the land of maple syrup so it's about to snow here soon. So I started looking for wheels/tires online and I decided, since it's winter, I wanna give my car a bit of an aggressive look using offroad wheels. However, I'm not too sure if it'll fit. I'm also unsure if the lugs are standard 5x114.3 like other rx8's. So please help a brother out!
How about this 225/55/16 with +45 offset? That's all the specs the seller gave me other than that it's a Core Racing wheels.
Might work...offset is good. The only way to be sure is to try the rims on the front to see if they clear the brakes. It's easy to try them on the car before you mount and buy them. Where are you getting them? Someplace in Surrey?

That may be wheel dependent too, when you get close to the wheel diameter limit they aren’t all created equal wrt inner spoke and barrel clearance. The typical rough estimate for the brake disc size limit is wheel diameter - 4”. 16”- 4” = 12”, so 11.9” brake discs are right there and it’s only a general rule of thumb.
I just bought some infiniti M45 sport wheels (19 x 8.5 +50). I want to run a small strech on them, i need some help with picking tires. I think i need a 225/35/19 but im kinda unfamiliar with aspect ratio. Can someone help me out?
Still in for wheel specs that let me run the fattest tire I can fit under the stock fenders with at most a good roll, front and rear without having hide poke with camber... I'd like 295-315's in the rear, and 255-275s in the front.
I don't know about the M45 but G37x rims have a 67mm center bore while the '8 has a 67.1mm hub. They will fit (I've done it) but take a little effort to remove. To do it properly, you should remove that 0.1 mm (4 thou) from the wheel bore using a flap wheel (like this). You only need to do it to a depth of 1/4" or so.

Yep AFAI can see/tell Mark is again correct.. There are some differences between S1 and S2 Bearing Hubs and Brake Disk and Calipers.
Basically all are interchangeable as a set of down to 17 inch, even 16 inch will work, BUT the inner black backing plate *** air duct needs to be either cut down/removed or replaced for correct size.
EDIT: IF you are using for normal ROAD use and have access to or own a PC with Mazda IDS and have a pass-through VCM you must/can adjust the Wheel Size so that mileage and Speeds are accurately addressed/recorded and shown.
Yep. 12” rotor is about the limit for a 16” wheel that has good design clearance. The non-sport suspension RX8 is 11.95” front and rear while Sport suspension is 12.7” front and 11.9” rear
I have a pic of 16” x 10” race wheels on a Sport RX8, but they had to put big spacers/studs on the front to have enough clearance between the ID barrel and the brake caliper. The barrel area behind the spokes wouldn’t clear the Sport caliper, but further toward the back it would. It was a unique racing situation when their highly modified FD3 broke and another car was needed for them to get a timed run completed. They were loaned an RX8 by another competitor.
I just installed 265/40/R18 Federal 595 RS-RR in the rear, but I'm disappointed with how narrow they are - they're barely (if at all) wider than my Sumitomo HTR Z-II 255/45 tires. Given this, I am going to move them to the front since they do have slightly shorter sidewalls and won't scrub in the front at all like my 255/45's do at full wheel lock, and put Nexen N-Fera SUR4G 275/40/R18 in the rear.
Granted it will be a slightly staggered setup, but the difference is minimal enough that I seriously doubt I will notice any handling issues in street driving. The tread pattern is very similar in the two types of tires (Federals and Nexens), but Federal doesn't make its 595 series in 275/40 flavor - only 275/35, which isn't enough sidewall for me.
The rims are Konig Lace 18x9.5 +20mm (rims are +45mm, but with +25mm Garageline spacers it works out to +20mm offset). Currently no scrubbing at all. Gutted fenderwells, rolled and moderately pulled fenders. Sitting on TEIN S.TECH springs with KONI Yellow shocks set to the softest setting for maximum shock travel in street driving.

These are the only two pictures I have but awhile ago I decided to test fit the wheels off one of my 3000GT's on my RX-8. I had 275/35 Federal 595RSRRs on them
