I don't know. Never ran wrong size tires. Why did you get giant tires anyway?

Picked up a set of tires at a good discount from a friend. Looks like they wont work out, as I'd be running different revs/mile between front and backs if I just downsized the fronts. Probably not a good thing.

Hay guys this is my first post on these forums so hi Firstly thanks to the guys who've been replying to peoples questions for 5 years in this particular thread you guys are awesome haha.

Even though I read through quite a few pages of this I still want to make sure my wheel choice will be right/ not retarded. I think I've got offset and everything down (which I really should have if I want to get into suspension tuning -_-) but I probably dont so don't shoot me if my specs are stupid.

From a semi practical but mostly for looks point of view how would these work?
F 19x8.5 +30
R 19x9.5 +33
From what I've read I think these would be really close if not rubbing at full lock? What size tires (something Im also bad with) should I be considering? I read 245 was the widest a street 8 should be using? Is that right?

Also if you were to go fully practical/ performance wise in wheel selection what sizes/ offsets would you choose?

Sorry if this has been covered already but 300pages is a bitch to read through Thanks for any help you give! :D

Pick one of those wheel sizes and run it at all four corners, and a 245/35 would be a good tire choice.

Practical and performance mean different things to different people. It is also not possible to have a practical and performance setup, since they have opposite functions.

Typical "practical" setup: stock or near stock. Practical to me means street friendly, good gas mileage, cheapish tires, little tire noise, little or no tramlining on broken pavement.

Typical "performance" setup: Again, performance means different things to different people. To me, performance would be targeted around autocross or trackdays......to others it might be backroad blasting or dragstrip. What do you consider "performance"? Regardless of this, reducing unsprung weight is important for improving performance, and I guarantee that 19" wheels will not be the lightest option.

Crane, yea I worded that wrong sorry haha. By performance I mean what you are thinking, something more geared towards track days, I think I read that on RX8s you dont want to go smaller than 17inch is that right? I'm usually more of a function>form guy (reading suspension tuning books during lunch at work )but the RX8 looks like something that I can get looking nice without much effort so I might aswell

Mr Pieper will 19x9.5 +33 fit on the front without rubbing at stock height? I'm going to get coilovers (probably before I get any wheels from what people are saying) so will they be able to handle some lowering?

Reading suspension books so you can learn how to do it wrong?

You claim to want to design towards track days, and that form follows function....and yet you are asking about 20" wheels.

Thinking of buying these off someone (came off a 350Z), but not sure if there will be issues:

TSW Cadwell 19's

F: 19x8 +40 225/35/19
R: 19x10 +40 265/30/19

I'm lowered on Tein S-Techs + Tokico D-Specs

may have to roll the rear fenders or something. Fronts are gonna be super weak compared to the rears. And I dislike the idea of a staggered setup

Yeah I don't like staggered as well. But I like the look of the wheels, and the fact that the rims and tires are practically brand new and selling for cheap, makes it kind of temping.

I guess it would be a bit of a downgrade from my current 19x9 +38 255/35/19 all around setup.

That was a typo, i meant 19x not 20x. Also after asking about the 19" set up I asked about what people would recommend as a more functional set up ( I know almost anything is more functional than a set of 19s but I dont know if their is a proven performance wheel/tire set up for RX-8s).

Cheers, so 245/40/18 would be okay for the 18x9.5 +40 set up? Would you run the same 245/40 on 17s?

Sure or a little wider. 17s would need 245/45 to be closer to original outer diameter for speedometer purposes. 245/40/17 would give lower gearing and less weight but more wheel gap

I wouldn't do a 45 sidewall, you will definitely have rubbing issues with such a tall tire. Do a 225/40 or even wider like a 235/40 and yes you will need to roll your fenders. It will rub on turns and bumps otherwise

That's super helpful except for the lack of offset or suspension mods and the fact that it's in the wrong thread
