I have a 2004 RX8 Grand Touring with stock 18" rims - I need to get some snow tires and I am going tuesday to meet a guy from this forum to look at / purchase some:
17" MSW wheels with bridgestone blizzak ws-50s 215/55/17
I know alot of guys seem to go down to 17s and go +1 on the tire size to do better in the snow - will these rims fit over the brakes?
Edit: i know i didn't exactly follow the template you guys put up but to be honest, I'm not really sure what the measurements are, other than to say I have no suspension mods and stock 18s - I just got the car less than 2 months ago.

I'd love to know where you get this info from... A majority of those tires on your list are mediocre for anything other than Daily driving or a nice sh*tty set of tires for drifting.. The ol Kumho MXs are better than a couple of the tires in that listing and only a couple I would consider better.. The 615s shouldn't even be on the list, I have powerwheel tires that have more grip than those.. Horrible tire for anything other than drift and daily driving, don't get them if you want to be competitive.

The tires I listed are the top street tires available. Maybe you should read grassroots tire comparison, or actually go to a race and see what tires cars in street classes are running. btw I've had experience with all the tires I have listed on other cars in HPDE's.

BTW imput im pretty sure grassroots likes the re-11 best, followed by the nt-05, followed by the XS. I'll agree with trex that the 615's leave alot to be desired.

hmm... the re-11 , re-01r, and star specs are quite good. MUCH better than the MX. Mx is **** compared to those dude (coming from a fellow rx-8 owner)

I don;t believe for one second you have driven on a aXS tire or an MX for that matter so your "opinion" of the tire is null and void.
To the guy who asked the question, do yourself a favor and research. You don't have to take my word for it or his. I have personally driven with a hand full of those tires ON AN RX8 and can assure you the 615s (which were the widest of the tires I have ran on my 8 and still sucked '265s') shouldn't be mentioned in a list with anything other than z rated street tires.
Do a simple Kumho XS vs Falken RT 615 in google or XS vs 048s, or 615s vs Z1s or whatever and you will get an abundant amount of useful information.
The ONLY 2 reasons to purchase 615s are 1) cheap and 2) drift. You might as well pour butter on your 615s once they heat up.

We do weekly canyon runs when at all possible and the XS is the closest feeling I have had to my NT01s. My only gripe is they take longer to heat up on wider runs where as the 05s are pretty much on all the time. With that being said, all an dall I have no doubt with more seat time that the 05s are the better tire, but driving style plays a part in any tire choice.
There can be a list of tires and a person can buy any one of them and not notice the difference.. at the end of the day. The 615s however don't even belong in any comparison.

But notice whats not on that list.. the 615s.. Garbage.
In dry conditions which is what we all generally race all of these tires are close. The thing I have noticed is the XS don't do well in the rain which is what kills its over all scores, but test similar to the ones grassroots had in May and June (which the XS won) on the dry track they haul a$$.

615's are not on the list because tire rack doesn't sell Falken. For the price point they are good, the stock RE040's are in the same class, and they suck a 100x more than 615's, and cost 2x more, those I would consider garbage. Back in 07, 615's were the ****, now they are old. They suck, like I said in the beginning, but out of the 100's of tire choices available in the class today, they are a good choice.

Hey guys im looking to get some ultralite hikari but I was wondering if they will fit without rolling or anything else.
I plan to drop the car on coilovers aswell if that makes any difference
18-8.5 offset +35
Also what tyre size is best for these.
And 1 last question will the 8.5s stick out further than the stock rims.

245/40/18 is closer to stock outer diameter for speedometer accuracy. 255/40/18 is damn near identical to stock outer diameter. The wheels will also be 21mm farther out from stock. I think Ross Dawg thought you put 8" wide rims.
