Question Weird Noise With MS Springs and Shocks - Please Help

I’m trying to pin down the cause of a weird noise I hear in the rear of the car now that I have installed the MS springs shocks and sways. While the car drives fine, I hear over small bumps and rough patches a hollow thunking sound.

I didn’t have any issues with the MS sways which I installed first. I don’t hear the noise over regular dips and hills. I have doubled checked all the torque settings of all the bolts as I torqued everything down to spec with my torque wrenches. I initially thought it was coming only from the rear passenger side, but I took that shock out, took it apart and reassembled it to be sure..and that didn’t seem to fix the issue.

I've taken the car out and given it a workout, I hit some real good sweepers to see if I heard anything or felt anything weird, but it seemed fine in the corners.

I noticed that the rear spring shock combo is rather easy to put together with out a spring compressor, and while not what I would call loose, it had me wondering if the top nut on the shock was tight enough so I zapped it with my impact wrench.

I’m wondering if it is somehow related to the rear sway bar as I rear seem to hear it at old times, like little bumps, rather than large ones.

Any of you guys with Mazdaspeed suspension have any of these issue or noises? Maybe this is normal, I know that the stiffer the suspension, the more noise you will hear, I just want to make sure nothing is loose that could get damaged.

Thanks guys

While I don't have the MS springs and shocks, I did have noise coming from the sway bars. It sounded like the rear, but was infact the front bar. While it had been installed correctly, the bolt on the endlink had become loose. The noise would only occur over small bumps or taking a speed bump at an angle. I suggest you first test the bolts and re-torque them. I actually ended up using a bit of loctite on them to keep them from coming loose again.

If this is not the case, it may be that your spring is not seated on its perch correctly. My guess though is that one of the bolts is loose somewhere.

Hope this helps :D

I'm about to install mine as soon as they are delivered. I read in a previous post that this is a common problem with the spring and that the cure is to get the spring caps which were used to correct the front spring noise on the Mazda 6. If you go to Rosenthal's website and look under tech bullitins for the 6, you should find it with the part #s. I'm heading out to my dealership to get them today myself.

I didn't even notice the year! I though it was posted yesterday. I was wondering why no one had flamed them for doing a search yet.
