TPMS light still on after putting OEM wheels/tires back on.

Is there a certain set of conditions that must be met before the TPMS system begins to function normally again? I put my summer tires back on yesterday and have driven for a total of about 60 minutes, top speed of 60 mph, and the TPMS light is still on. I should point out that one of my OEM tires was destroyed by a nail, so one of the wheels has had a tire dismounted and a new one re-mounted by Discount Tire Co. However, yesterday I realized that Discount Tire Co. mounted the tire in the wrong orientation (even though it was labeled!), so I had to go to Sears to get another dismount/remount. My fear is that the TPMS sensor on this wheel may have been damaged by one of these places... but I'm hoping someone can tell me that the TPMS light should magically turn off after XXX miles of driving or sustained speed of XX mph for at least XX minutes. Anybody?

You need to perform this procedure, if you have not already.
3. Perform Wheel Unit Auto Registration:
a. Turn ignition on.
b. Turn ignition off.
c. Leave vehicle with engine off for more than 15 minutes.
d. Drive vehicle over 25 KM/h (16 MPH) for more than 10 minutes to register the new ID codes.

I saw this procedure posted in another thread, but I thought there had been several people who didn't need to do anything special like this? Also, technically I should have already performed this procedure, right? I mean, I turned the car on, turned the car off and waited much longer than 15 minutes. Then I drove the vehicle for 20+ minutes, most of the time going over 40 mph. Does the speed need to be kept over 16 mph for 10 minutes straight, i.e. uninterrupted highway driving?

I actually had this problem, and it turned out that one of the wheel sensors had gone bad from switching the wheels around. It was covered under warranty...though it took 3 trips to get it right, as the first 2 times Mazda said it was a tire pressure issue, and that the light wouldn't come on for them, but the light comes on after 10 minutes of the car being on, every time...and they weren't doing that.

that being said...the light never went off by itself after 3000 or so miles. If it's a sensor, it needs to be replaced.

I'm an idiot...

Well, who would have thought that the TPMS light was on because there was LOW TIRE PRESSURE!!?? Certainly not me . It's odd though, because 3 of the tires were within spec (~31.5 psi), and 1 was way low (~18 psi). The tire that was low was not the one that had been dismounted/remounted. Hopefully it doesn't have a puncture somewhere causing a slow leak.

Anyway, as soon as I filled up the low tire, the light turned off. Black electrical tape is now gone :D.

Yeah buckeye I had the same problem and it's kinda worried me now cuz I seem to have a slow leak in the tire I got remounted. Does anyone know why this is, or what we need to do to fix it?

I'll prolly just wind up takin it to MAzda again, though... =/

Check the valve stem core....often they will leak..sometimes the valve is faulty..but often they are just loose.

Use a bit of dish soap and water...if it leaks..you will get bubbles
