Tokico states that the DSK-519 spring/damper combo provides a 1.25" drop on all four corners but I am having a difficult time finding out what the rates are as all the websites I am looking at simply cut-and-paste the Tokico info and the Tokico website, itself, has nothing I can find. Anybody know what the rates are, definitively, of the springs in the DSK kit?

I am in a good mood right now so I will ship the DSK-519s in the 48 States for $775, including a set of cables.

Thats a great deal, I too could never find the spring rates but they have worked great for me. Flat through the turns and smooth on the highway.

I have the Tein Flex currently. After a few years I'm sick of them due to the crappy Chicago roads, and the car doesn't see the track enough to make them worthwhile to me any longer.

All that written, I've been on the track in RX-8 equipped MS cars and Racing Beat equipped cars. Both are great solutions and very good improvements vs. the stock suspension. If you want to set it and forget it, and just drive, both are great options.

Although I don't sell the Racing Beat stuff I agree about their quality and application for simple bolt-it-on and forget it. Their springs and sways are pretty damned nice and that is what I have on my own car for now.

I dont think Dhan really had a question. I think he was stating that the cost for the koni struts and springs is about the same amount as Hein Coilovers and that he was having a hard timing deciding which to buy. He was also thinking about buying the springs first and then changing the struts latter. Also his car does not have the apperance package so with the coilover he could go lower.

I think that was everything. Dhan, did I get it right?

I'm not familiar with Hein Coilovers or the Koni Springs so I can't help there. Sorry.

.5" drop, 20% stiffer over stock. this is mild enough for your stock shocks to handle imo.

Cheap solution too...but srsly, if I'm ever doing anything to my suspension it will be this:

I've spoken to a few drivers at track days with RB springs on OEM shocks, most commented that towards the end of the 20 minute session that the shocks would begin to experience a lot of fade...but on the street that you couldn't tell the difference.

After all, the RX-8 IS a street car, not a race car.
The demographic for which it was intended was never expected to be hammering the car like we have been doing for the past 5 years.

Well Mazda did some things very very right for those of us that track our cars - such as the brakes, fully adjustable suspension, and ultra stiff chassis. I think they had track days/Auto X specifically in mind when they laid out the design goals for this car.

Now lining-up at Christmas trees...I think that was far from their concern.

I tend to agree that Mazda did a GREAT job in designing/engineering the RX-8 and I am not one to routinely complain about the power/weight ratio as it is my opinion that when you keep the revs between 6,000-9,000 RPMs the car is a totally different beast. The brakes and suspension are considered by car mag journalists and pro drivers to be among the best regardless of vehicle price.

I also tend to think that any shortcomings inherent in the RX-8 were either in an effort to approach a certain demographic or to appease/comply with given regulations/laws.

Agree 100%. Sometimes after a track day, or even some "spirited" street driving, I've wondered how they could get the driving dynamics so right - from the handling, to pedal placement, etc...but then spot welded a clutch bracket, or given us a 6th gear that limits gas mileage, or only located a third MOP nozzle after years of production...kind of frustrating.

The swift spring are a .8" drop front and rear. Does not matter what struts you use.

Hmm...too bad, I'm wanting to go lower. Is there a spring that would pair well with the D-specs that would give me a 1.5-2" drop?

Try looking into the Tokico DSK-519 kit as it is in the $700 price range, it is a springs/dampers combo, and provides a 1.25" drop. I offer it with a free pair of remote adjuster cables, too.

I think you sid you have the MS kit or frot bumper? If you go any lower then 1.25" you will start running into clearance issues. Plus a drop in the 2" range is going to limit the suspension travel and require a much stiffer spring to prevent bottoming out, the stiffer spring is going to effect the ride comfort.

I agree with CRH, look at the tokico DSK-519 D-psec struts with 1.25" lowering springs.

I am going to be selling a used set very soon.
