Shop says: too low for alignment

the local place i went to told me that i needed to remove my rear bumper and exhaust (rr single)

i think im around 26" from the ground to the top of the fender.

he wanted $170 to do the alignment and take off the bumper and exhaust. Normally he charges $75

should i look around for a place that can do it without that mess? I already took my exhaust off in an attempt to cut down the price

Why would they need to take all that off? They never have had to remove anything to do mine.

the guy attached the mechanism to the wheel to "give it a quick test", last time he just looked at it and said no it wouldnt work.

when he attached it, he pointed that the laser would hit the rear aero flare/exhaust shroud.

He told me that other shops may have an alignment laser with longer/adjustable arms to accomodate for lowered cars but he doesnt have that.

Yes call around, and your not flush because you are on coilovers and much lower than I was when I had stock wheels and spacers.

I don't know how far you are from Aberdeen, but there is a shop on route 35 that has the alignment rack installed flush to the floor so getting onto the machine is no problem. I usually go there for alignments and they do a great job. The shop is called Advanced tire and auto center, inc. i had this issue lowering mine, the usual gauges wont fit over the top of the tire. you will need some one with 4 wheel laser alignment, i think the machine is called 'hunter' over here, not sure if its the same in the U.S

they are about 40min away from me according to google maps.

Know of any shops closer to NE NJ? Essex county?

Why not SJF Performance ?

How would you compare them both?

He will most likely have to take his bumper off like I did so I was referring a shop where it wouldn't be a hassle getting onto the rack. If he has no problem taking off his front bumper then I would refer SJF because the alignment is custom and done with you in the driver seat.

That shop is complete crap. Find a place that has one built into the ground so there is no ramp to drive up on. You shouldn't have to pay more than $65 for it.

I get mine done at tireman. the one tech is the only one who would touch my car with the 360 forged rims on. they have rubber alignment pieces for the rims. also they have a drive on flush with the floor rack. It was 125 for 3 years all the alignments I want and to my specs. with out the 3 year was 75 for 4 wheel

My car is quite low....but removing the bumper won't help the problem anyway...it is more of a problem getting it over the air-jack setup on most alignment racks...or getting it up on the rack in the first place

You need to find a place with some accessory ramps and a few brains.....and you will be OK

At 26" there should be lots of room

ask around for where the local competitors get theirs done, your SCCA region etc.

26" to fender lip is high for STX, just fyi
