Gerrr so what do you guys use to push it back in with?

StealthTL told me to use this small box tool and screw it back in but I have one. But I think thats only when changing the back brakes right?

Is there a bolt I need to brake lose to get the caliper piston back in?

 

You can use a C-clamp...I usually use my fingers and the old brake pad....

The rears need the tool..you have to turn and push to get it to retract

If you open the bleed screw..it makes it easier

 

For the front, I tryed with my fingers and a block of wood. But it would not go back in.
Ray told me to use a C clamp. Guess I will have to pick one up at Autozone.
Do I need to open the bleeder screw on the front too? or is that just for the back?

 

You can try a pair of pliers also... put it between both pistons and open it up, that should send them back in..

Btw... You shouldn't have to bleed it, but if you have extra fluid and have no choice but to do it by hand it will make it easier.

Ive only done the fronts... a C clamp works great. Glad to know Ill need a tool for when I get to the rears in the future

 

Just get a large C-clamp and use the backing plate from an old set of worn pads to cover the piston (so as not to scratch the piston face with the clamp). Cheap, simple effective. Put one end of the C-clamp on the back of the caliper and the other end on the plate covering the piston front and squeeze.

You can borrow the tool from autozone to turn the rears. They just need your CC. Also get a large c-clamp

 

Anyone know where you can buy the tool for the rears?

I think Id rather just have my own just in case

 

They are available cheap at most chain auto parts stores, I got mine at
Advance Auto. Its a little cube with a different key on each side of the cube, one of which will fit the RX8 rears. The cube fits on a 3/8" drive socket wrench.

 

^Yea I got that small cube key box looking tool thing lol at autozone for like $14 bucks. But you only need it if your doing the back pads. I'm just doing my front for now.

 

There is a DIY on this.

Open the master cylinder. Make sure you have room for the fliud to go up. If not use a turey baster and suck some fluid out.

Now you have the room AND the pressure is relieved. Use old brake pad and C clamp for front.
Needle nose for rear.

Its not too clear on the needle nose pliers part though

 

I've always used pliers to retract the piston on the rear caliper.
Nothing wrong with that.
