Angry Problems with HKS Hipermax II's anyone?

I had mine for a little under a year and my front left shock went out. I called hks in los angeles and the customer service girl told me that model was not made for US road conditions. Sounds bogus to me but according to her, Japans roads are much smoother. I remember when i first started shopping for the hipermax II's on the hks web site, they originally had them posted for the rx8. And mentioned nothing about being made for japan roads only. now they changed their site so that the hipermax II's don't show up for the rx8. they have the new hipermax RS which they posted is safe for both US and japan roads. which they didn't mention before. i'm thinking they did this cuz they made a defective product and had lots of returns. Just wanted to get a idea from you guys to see if anyone else had this problem.

i could be..
1. faulty item to start with
2. bad/dodgy installation
3. bad/dodgy road conditions

bad luck i guess, these wear and tare items are sometimes difficult to warrant.... can HKS at least refer you to a service centre?

road conditions here are fairly good. i'm not living on a farm. its the city. hks will not warranty them. the story they told me was that item was only made for track use and japan roads. like i said, when i shopped for this item, on the hks site they advertised them as ok for the RX8 in the united states. now when i check the site, its been removed and they replaced it with a new product, the hipermax RS. which on the site says is "US road" friendly. funny how the site was changed like that, as if allot of other ppl had same problems. when i first bought the coilovers, i remember there being a 1 year waranty, that waranty is gone now. called all my friends, they heard simular problems too. it sounds like i got a shitty deal. i feel so ripped off. i thought i bought some really good quality parts cuz it had a big name behind it.

Hmmm..... mine are a year old and still fine after driving on US roads.

Is the shock leaking or something? How many miles have you put on them?

you put 30k miles in a year? thats in the realm of wear and tear. average milage is 12000 a year. i dont think there was a warranty in the firstplace. i dont remember seeing a warranty card that came with mine.

put 30k on them.
That's about what I would expect out of them. If I get 30k out of my coilovers I wont complain.

Generally if you want max durability you stay with stock components.

OK guys, i just wanted to get this straight in HKS's defence. I noticed something weird under the driver side of the car today when i was stairing at my car. I took a closer look and found a dent under the driver side door towards the front of the car, not to far behind the wheel. i jacked up my car and realized that someone had drove my car and went over a curb or something simular to that effect. the dent and the marks under the car are where the coilover that went bad are. when i did that my friend noticed the the back fender and a dent in it. took a closer look at that and found a thin red paint streak, look slike someone hit something, then rub off most of the paint but couldn't get the last bit off. apparently someone drove my car and crashed it, then tried to cover it up. i don't know how long ago this was, cuz the dents are not so big, and not really noticable unless someone points it out. i'm really pissed off. i only let a hand full of close friends drive my car, and thats usually only to move it when someone needs to park. i hope it happened when i went to the dealer, otherwise i really need to reevaluate my friends. thanks for the concern guys, but it look slike the HKS hipermax II's didn't just go bad on their own.

Funny thing was i left a message to hks earlier today, i was gonna complain to them about their product when they called back. good thing they called back after i found out. when they did return my call i did the right thing and told them what happen. they where nice enough to let me send it back for a rebuild at my expense. i guess i could have tried to get some free repairs under warranty, but i was just thinking the whole time, "how ever that ******* that fucked up my car should have fessed up." if i didn't tell the truth i would be just like that *******.

The dents are small, but i see them. Especially now, to me their freakin huge. When i look at my car now, its all i see now. i mean i'm not rich, i practically spent everything i saved up for this car. i could have used that money for other things like business and what not, but i wanted to enjoy a fine sports car that had a unique engine that i already had a passion for. My first car was a 1988 RX7. When i look at my car now, i dont' even freakin want it anymore. its been so violated. And the worst part is, like i said, its either the dealer, or one of my close friends. I don't think the dealer could get away with something like that. they have supervisors and managers, so many people envoled, someone would have said something.

That sucks bro, got any pics of the damage? Doesn't sound TOO bad...

I hardly let anyone drive my car, and if I do, it's under my supervision.

Definitely should be more selective of who you let drive your car, and it would be easier to pin down. The only people that drive my car are me, my mom a little bit initially but not for six months or more, and the people at the dealership when I take it in for service. Otherwise, I have never let anyone drive it or hardly even sit in it. Although I did consider letting Robbie drive it part way back from Seattle about two weeks ago because my arm was was in such pain I couldn't move it for awhile. However, he was sleeping again, so it didn't happen.

I don't know what to tell you. I wouldn't trust my friends with my car, and them knowing how I am about it, most likely wouldn't drive even it if I offered.

I could go so many directions with this... I guess I'll just leave it alone.

Atleast you know the reason for the problem, sucks to find stuff like that.

No way would I let any of my friends drive my car, nor will I take it to the dealer for anything. Only person that gets to drive the car ever other than me is my wife and she wont drive it.

dude, u guys dont' understand, its not like i let them take out for a whole day or even longer then 10 min. i let them drive it to move when other ppl need to park, or to go to the store real quick for chips and ****. and even then, like i said, there are only like 3 or 4 ppl i would let do that. ppl i completely trust, or trusted in this case. i posted pics at the lounge.

seriously man, only reason they would go out on you is if you bottom them out or damage them. Your statement is just not very logical...Obviously if you run them at it's stiffest setting all the time and you constantly ride on rough roads there is a chance that this may happen, and thats with many other coilover systems out there..i'va had mine for over 2 years now and have had zero problems with them.
