Kumho tires???

Anyone have any experience with Kuhmo tires. In particular ECSTA SPT or any other Kuhmo tires. Especially here in Canada where we get totally ripped off on tire and other car part prices for some unknown reason (it's only 15cents less than the US dollar), I can't justify spending $400 CDN on one tire made by Bridgestone or Dunlop. Any experience would be appreciated. I am planning on 245/40/18 on stock 18" rims.

Thanks

I've heard nothing but good reports about them. I am running a set on my Protege 5 and am pleased. Check the reviews at Tire Rack.

im sorry you live in canada....hahaha.....just kidding!

anyway, ive only heard GREAT things about the SPT's, from quietness, to performance, to wet condition handling, wear, etc...they seem like just about THE best bang for the buck out there. i almost bought them, but i was going for something a little more performance-focused, so i ended up getting toyo t1-r's. if i had a set of dedicated track wheels & tires, the SPT's would definately be on my 'daily driver' rims. i don't think you can go wrong with them. good luck!

How about driving to Niagra or Buffalo to get your tires. Would that work out? The price difference, except for the exchange rate, would probably be due to taxes.

Customs Canada always looking for this - and it can get ugly if you try not to pay all the taxes and customs at the border. Be careful.

well i must be the only one who hates kumho tires. I had a set of of ecsta asx on my prelude and i drive a little spirited, but nothing too extreme, and the tread was gone within 9 months to a year, the drive was a little rough along with more sidewall flex than my old tires (forget what brand they were) So i didnt like them, but i wouldnt weigh the product on 1 bad experiance

i have put about 10k miles on a set of spts in about 8 months.

225/45 18. have been most pleased with them. handle almost as well as the stock bridgestones. they are quiet, are excellent in the rain. and my best guess is i will get at least 50k miles out of them.

have not auto xed them yet. but for the money a good choice.

beers

I second what Lazi said, Kumho MX is a really good tire. I had them in 245/40/18 and the grip was superior to the stock Potenzas.

I had the spt's on my 04 MS miata. They were the best tires for the money. Grip was good, as swoope mentioned, great in the rain. The spt will be my next street tire for sure. The MX is a great tire, but for the money(unless you get the oem size) the spt's are better. Tirerack.com has the MX in oem size for like $107 a tire(at least a week or so ago they did).

All of the above is void if you plan to autox on the tires. If thats the case, spend the extra $$$ on the 245/40/18 MX's.

don't mean to hijack but i'm from canada too... and yea we do get ripped off badly here

if i drive to US, change up the tires only on my rims and drive back - will customs really be able to tell?

anyone know any good shops in or around plattsburg (ny state?)

Angry

I am told by tire shops it's because we are a smaller market. Is this why we have to pay $140 CDN (plus 15% tax) for a tire that I have on my VW when tirerack has them for $61 US? I would drive down but I have to have worn out tires first.

just dirty up the tires and make sure you wear off the rubber ingots.. Go down a dirt road a few times and you should be fine.

Oh and dump the recipt or mail it to yourself... Bring back something else like beer or whatever. just have something tangible for customs to play with.
