Installed Bilstein HDs; impressions

Hi all!
Once again, more changes to my RX-8... Installed Bilstein HD shocks from www.shox.com, I've dealt with them before, fast shipping.

I installed them today and went out for a quick drive. Alignment was awful but the shocks were much better than the stock shocks. Quick upward motions like sealed cracks in the pavement were smoothed out yet turning motions were stiff and well controlled.

Also, I noted that they did NOT lift the car. I had the Eibach springs on stock shocks and if anything, the Bilsteins sit a little lower! I'll have to shoot a photo tomorrow so everyone can see.

Cool. Keep us posted. I'm considering the PSS9s.

I just got the HDs, not the PSS9 setup.

On further consideration, these still aren't the smoothest around. I was expecting an Audi-like performance (perfectly controlled dampening and body motion) and while the body motion is greatly tamed, the compression setting still seem a little too stiff. Perhaps I should get on the horn to Barbara Boxer and demand that the roads get repaved in my area, as they are quite bad. I just feel like I'm beating the hell out of my car all of the time. We'll see how things go on my next trip to LA coming up next Friday. See if the freeways can be tamed by the Bilstein HDs.

I just installed some Bilstein HDs myself and conclude with your impressions. I might have a slight problem though, maybe someone can chime in. I seem to have more clearance on my right rear vs. my left rear, like less than 1/4 inch, but I eyeballed it immediately and finally broke out the measuring tape today and confirmed it.

Where should I start?

You need to measure the frame height when your on a lift.

That's what counts.
