Has anyone here downgraded?

I'm mainly talking to those that have 18's stock. Mine came with the 18's, and I have some 19's, that I haven't put on the car yet, because they rub a little.

So I was thinking of getting rid of the 19's and "downgrading" to 17's.... but a wide 17... like a 17x9 or 17x9.5

I was wondering if anyone else has done this... and if you have, any difference in handling?

Why would you never go below 18's?

I'm not actually in San Antonio anymore... although my car is. I'm in San Diego, CA now. But my friend is driving my VR every once in a while. If you see one that is dropped with yellow film on the headlights... that's mine.

I originally wanted that setup - you can pick up some gearing with the proper tire sizing and lose some weight. The speedo will be a tad bit off if you get the lower profile tires and the fender-tire gap will also be 1/2" bigger. Consequently, however, your car will too be 1/2" lower.

I know there are some topics on this matter, I think i may have started one. Search

I would only get 17's for the track. 19's look the best, but 18's are the best all around.

I saw a red car with yellow headlights. he tried to race me and spun out taking a left turn. it looked like his wheel went up on the curb but i dunno.

17s will gain you some speed in the launch, but cost you some handling over equal width 18s. also tires will be cheaper. The increased width will improve handling somewhat. If they clear the calipers and look good, go for it.

I have a set of 17x7's with all-seasons that I had originally planned to use for winter. Except that I put V710's on my OEM 18's and just drive on the 17's year round.

Seriously, is the handling issue that big when you consider how criminally stupid it is to drive close enough to the limit to notice on public roads?

I don't mind the fender/tire gap so much....

I spent a couple grand on my wheels and tires, 19x9.5's, and they are brand new.
Earlier when I said I haven't put them on the car yet, I lied a little. I put them on when I first got them, and I cruised up the street and back, then took them off. I didn't want to put them on yet, cause I wanted to get a kit and put them on at the same time. But I had to see what they looked like on the car. That's when I found out they rubbed a little.
So I figure if I can sell them for a little over half of what I paid, I can pick up some decent, wide 17's. 18's are nice, but other than looks, I can't think of any other benefit to having them.

I don't track the car, but the thought of losing some rotational mass sounds good to me.

Fender/tire gap, don't really mind. As far as the car being lower, I'm cool with that. I actually wanted to lower it a little more.

Yeah, that's why I want a wider than stock wheel. I just don't know what wheels yet.

i would get a set of 17"RPF1. 17 RPF1 looks better than 18" i think. but thats just what I think, and its the only wheel i think looks better than its 18s. and they are purely light.

Looks good rot0r

And I really like the RPF1's, but it just seems that everyone has those wheels. I would love to get the FN01RC's like you Phil, but I'd want the really aggressive looking ones.

RPF1's are a bit played out, I should know, I have them :-X But hey, they are cheap, lightweight rims.

I say be super aggressive and run 17x10 +38 RPF1 in sbc!!!!!!!!!!

I would be too jealous...

They also make 17x9.5 in +38 of that color

Maybe 17x9.5 +44 nt03's?

The RPF1 is an oldschool wheel, but it's HAWSSS... it's freakin' stout. I don't mind going 17x10 either... but I just need to know what offset would work. Everytime I start to think offset I get a headache. For some reason, it's such simple math, but I can't get it. It's like offset on wheels is my achilles heel
