FYI for those of you with brake squeal

Dear John,

Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.

In regard to your inquiry, Mazda is aware of the squealing noise you're experiencing with your brakes. This concern is currently under further investigation from our Product Engineers in Japan. We expect a repair to be available by the first week of October. I certainly apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to assist you. Please feel free to reply to this message with any further questions or comments.

Please take a moment to give us your opinion about our e-mail service.

Well, I got an email from them just like that a month or two ago. But they have progressed some since they now have an ETA on the fix. I'm looking forward to getting this taken care of!

You should post a link of who you emailed so we can all send one out. I think it would mean more if we just flooded there email box. Eventually they would get tired of hearing us complain and fix the problem. Its not like mazda has never made brakes before.

Yeah that's a fantastic idea - let's **** off an IT admin and some poor email-respondbot by flooding an email box...

This is real good news. Had this same drama with the '99 cougar when it came out. There was a special coating on the rotors which made the car sound like the front end was falling off.

I pull up to the light, car clean, music blarring, and I hear my damn brakes over all that. Mazda, not good, you killing my cool fator.

My brakes squeel once in a while too. Not all the time at all. Doesn't affect performance, just an occasional eye opener / loss of cool factor :o . Yep, it would be nice to get it fixed, thanx for this good news!

Isn't it just the front brakes?

Finally some support from Mazda! I don't buy the "oh it's normal" BS anymore. Sucks when you have a problem with your new car, and all they could give you is "it's normal".

Thanks for the update Rexleggt. I'm looking forward to this, my rear brakes have squealed since the car was a month old.

My brakes squeal like crazy now.. but it took 1500 miles for them to start! Have the rest of you had them squaeal from day 1 or did it start after a certain amount of miles?

I've got about 8,000 miles and mine just started doing it within the last 500 miles.

I've got over 12,000 miles on my RX-8, and no squeal ever from the brakes. Not everyone has this!

Mine started to squeak as I approached 5K miles. They have to be warm before they will squeak.

Same here. It is just that now I have 1400 miles and the squeak is really getting on my nerves.

Anyone have any guess at what type of "fix" this could be? Are they going to start using different pads?
