FYI for those of you with brake squeal
Mine are horrible!! I live in Dallas. And have called and complained to Town North Mazda countless times. However this morning, they were aware of this issue ACTUALLY BEING A ISSUE. And said there was a "fix" that should arrive around early - mid October. THANK GOD.Hopefully help is on the way. Because its just terrible pulling up to a stop light sounding like a nissan. lol
has anyone read the latest TSB that addresses this issue?

I was just at the dealership on Tuesday, getting my oil changed and my M flash. I didn't bother mentioning the brake squeal to them, because I "knew" they wouldn't do anything about it. Now I'll have to schedule another visit!
Can someone get a picture of the new pads when their at the dealership i'd like to see how they are designed or get a look at the material they use before i "upgrade" my car to possibly a crappier pad.

I will be having new front pads installed on my 8 Saturday. I mentioned the noise to my dealer's service manager a few weeks ago. He called yesterday and said the pads had arrived. It will take about an hour for installation. I am so fortunate to have a Service Department and Service manager who cares about the customer. I think the noise will be taken care of but the brake dust may increase. I can clean brake dust but that noise was driving me crazy! Gary
Just got my car back from the dealer with the new front brake pads (F1Y23323Z), and for the first time in over a year, no more squeal. Granted, only put 40 miles on it so far, so it could be just the result of a new install rather than the new pad compound. They also seem to be using a pink-metallic brake goop now, instead of the original silver. I don't think the shop turned the rotors in my case (there was only 0.5h on the service invoice for this item). The funny thing was, I could have sworn the squeal was coming from the driver-rear brake (I could make it go away by pulling up hard on the hand brake during light braking), and I don't think they touched that one. Regardless, it's nice to be able to finally pull slowly up to the red light without having to brace yourself for that long metallic grind.
I noticed the old pad kit was F1Y13323Z, so I guess this F1Y2 set is the stock part on 2005 builds?

I just made an appointment for a check engine light and mentioned the TSB about the new brake pads. The service technician claims that Mazda will not cover the new pads under warranty--the customer is responsible for paying for the new pads. This directly contradicts the warranty statement in the TSB! I'm calling Mazda NA for an answer before I bring my car in for service. Why do dealers have to pull this BS! The same thing was happening with the PCM reflash.
That's total BS. I have been complaining about the squeling of the pads since I bought the car last November. I had a rep come from the corporate office and take a ride with me in the car, just to tell me that she heard nothing. When they came out with the TSB I immediatly called up my dealer and they said no problem, they knew about the TSB and would replace the pads. Who knows maybe now Mazda is telling the dealers to refuse the pads under warranty because people are just coming in trying to get new pads. I'm sure that is the problem, like what happend with the navigation erase trick. I'd still complain nevertheless, especially if you are having the problem with the brake pads, try another dealership.

Sadly, I have taken to printing out the TSB and giving it to the service writer when I bring the car in. If there is a charge dispute I simply point to the warranty directions in the TSB.
The service manager is "doing some research" and will try to have an answer for me today. Apparently the TSB isn't good enough for him, so he needs to call Mazda directly. When I called Mazda NA, the rep didn't have any access to the TSB database, so all he could do was call the dealership and ask them to look into it some more. I'll keep you updated.
Weird Sound turning left
I have a really weird sound when I turn left. The right front side of the car sounds like clack clack clack, and I think it might be coming from the brakes. I upgraded the brakes, so I dont know if it is the smae problem. How does your squeal sounds???

It's a high-pitched, tonal sound that is emitted during braking with light to moderate pressure. It's independent of steering.I'd suggest you get your car checked out. It sounds like something is impacting.

I brought mine in with 26,000 miles on it to have the brake squeal fixed. My dealer knew about the TSB and replaced the pads with no question. They also turned the rotors at no charge, although this is not a covered repair under the TSB. The service manager submitted the warranty claim as "excess pulsation in the brakes" and said that if Mazda did not cover turning the rotors then the dealership would eat the cost, as it makes no sense whatsover to install new brake pads on a car with that many miles on it and not turn the rotors.
Lschiavo: Other brake squeal issue threads also talked about the clacking sound you here from your car. I suspect that when you had the brakes upgraded, the wheels were not properly torqued. The manual in specific on torquing the wheels as are most other cars. There's a reason for it and so you need the lug nuts tightened to the specific torque using a reliable torque wrench. That should solve the problem.

Also had them paint the rotors to cover the rust. Except for a little bit of gray paint they got on one of the discs, the service was well worth it. I'd take digital pics, but I don't have a camera on me at the mo...
:p The dealer ordered the new brake pads from Mazda and installed them today. The squeak is gone Yeaaaah. Warranty will correct on individual basis only Since not all 8's are doing it.

Update: the dealer has now agreed to install the new pads under warranty. He wouldn't take my word for it about the TSB--he had to receive a direct fax from Mazda. Not all VINs are eligible for this repair--but I'd guess every car with the original brake pads would be eligible.
