Haha I seen some of those raised cars with 22's when I was in San Fran and had a good laugh.

I'm actually in Alberta and live on an acreage so the snow can get quite deep during the winter.

I have a Toyota Tundra as well but the RX8 is so much fun in the winter, why park it for half the year?

 

you don't need to raise the car if you get 22's. Lower it.

 

Those spacers wouldn't work on the RX-8's coilover setup. However, there's a company called Jackson Rally that makes spacers for WRX's that clamp between the shock's top hat and the body to give an effectively longer shock (here's a link). If you really want to raise your car, I think that's the way to go because you don't lose rebound travel. I had considered making some for my RX-8 for rallycross so that I could fit some truck tires under my car but never went through with it.

 

Do you know for sure if either the front or rear lift will fit on the rx8 on either front or back?

This is exactly what I was looking for a while back, but didn't get much response on my thread other than to get a taller tire. I'll have to keep an eye on this to see if it works out for you.

When I put coil spacers on my car, this happened.. It was the most fun I've had in my life.

 

Please don't raise your 8. Just don't drive it in the winter.

 

Funny. My clutch blew, and out of necessity I had to uhual it back to my residence, two hours away. The car, lowered with Sprint Springs, would not get on the ramp.

Anger.

Bum uhual mechanic. More anger.

Out of desperation I removed the front cross member and paid 50 dollars for steel air hose couplers which I fit in between the top sections of my front springs.

It worked. Now I have four couplers up in my sh*t, but at least I got my car back.

Maybe I should take those out now, round steel fittings shouldn't damage or deform my springs right?

 

i really dont see a point of raising it, if it is snowing really hard, just dont drive the 8 for that few days.

 

I don't think either would fit, though the fronts would be a lot closer than the rear. When I was considering it, my plan was to machine them myself. It might be a little more complicated in the rear due to the unusual spring perch. And of course, like with lowering a car, you have to worry about being able to compensate for the camber loss as well as being in a different part of the toe curve, which could lead to funny bumpsteer.

The off-the-shelf solution would be to simply get some coilovers and raise the car up with the threaded spring perches collars. Of course this takes away from your rebound travel and will almost certainly stiffen the car unless you get some custom springs, so it might hurt more than it helps.

As an aside, I'm not really understanding why there's so much opposition to this idea. Not everybody uses their car in the same way, and telling the OP not to do it isn't really going to sway his decision. It's not like he's going to go and raise your car.

 

just lift up the chassis so all four wheels are off the ground, loosen all the suspension bolts, then retighten them all, voila .... will get you a least an inch

 

I'm actually in need of something like the OP is asking about. When I carry two or more adult passengers, my RX-8 lacks enough clearance to get over the gigantic speed bumps in the condominium complex where I live. With just my wife, 2 year old daughter, and I, we're Ok; but put some groceries or another adult in the car, and even coming to a dead stop in front of the speed bump and then inching over leads to scraping under the rear seat. My suspension is stone stock.

How badly would that impact the alignment? Sorry. I know it screams newb; but I haven't yet done suspension work other than replacing a failed sway bar end link.

 

funny i need to bring up the rear 1/2- 1 inch due to me always carrying 2 baby seats, 2 strollers and 90% of the time has 2 adults and 2 kids. speedbumps rip everything off here, and my turbo is about to go in -eek-

 

Thank you! At least I know I'm not the only one with this problem. It's to the point where more than once I've thought of home-brewing some thermite to slag the tops of the speed bumps in the condo complex where I live. I'm tired of fixing the undercoating!

If you do raise your car the way Team mentioned, be aware that in jounce, you will be winding up the bushings a whole lot more than they were originally intended. I'm not sure how much of an impact this has. Bushing rate can be up to 1/3 of spring rate, though it is a lot less linear, so it has a similar effect to preloading the springs. This gets confusing because I don't mean preloading in the same sense that coilovers claim to "preload" springs.

As far as your alignment goes, it will get tweaked just the same as if you raise the car with any other method. That probably means that it will add some positive camber, a bit of front toe-out and a bunch of rear toe-in. The toe can be taken care of easily, but the camber adjustment range is pretty limited.

 

why didnt you just take off the front bumper? thats what i did when my trans blew.

 

i would get these for when i use my drop springs and have to pass a state vehicle safety inspection where its hard to get a reconstruction permit. just slap these babys on for inspection time and off they go.
