Would Tein Basics be right for me?
Im planning to lower my car in the spring, but I also will have to raise and lower the car depending on the season due to living in Chicago. So I want to get coils instead of springs.
I commute alot highway, no track.. Some bumps. Would teins be perfect for me for normal street use?

If you're not tracking, why do you want coilovers? Get a nice set of springs and dspecs or Koni Yellows. Sure it's track setup, but they are adjustable, cheaper, and not as aggressive. You don't need coilovers.

as for a height adjustablitly i'd assume any entry level coilover should be fine for you...
as for performance tein basics probably arent the best...
but good entry level coilovers i'd say are
tanabe sustecs or
megan...

whats the diff?price wise they both cost the same right? or am I lookin at the wrong shops. I've been thinking they samething I'm not gonna track my car but if I go basic instead of d-spec with sprint spring I save a little bit of money not much but hey more money for another mod. no?

OK so let me clarify this.
Great Benefits of Tein Basic:
1. Retains Factory Uppermounts, improved noise resistance from the road. Less chasis vibrations.
2. Springs should be progressive as well to improve ride quality.
3. Height Adjustable
Oddly enough these things ride quite well. I think for the price you can't beat it. It's rare that guys constantly change their damper settings anyways. so this would be a good step 1 upgrade.
The Tanabes are also somewhat similar but I don't believe their springs are progressive. The ride may have a tendency to be bouncier.
The Megans might seem like a bargain but you get what you pay for. Limited engineering, no racing background, private labeled mass marketted coilovers from overseas. I do not believe their quality control and manufacturing standards would be the same as Tein or Tanabe. On paper they might seem like a better value but I just don't think they would suit your purpose.
If you want to keep it simple.
1. Ride height adjustment for those advere conditions, winter etc...
2. Good Ride Quality
Tein Basics would be good. I don't have experience with tanabe S-oc on RX8 but i'm sure they are decent too. I know the basics ride nice. I got into a customer car expecting the worst and basically had to put my foot in my mouth after going for a ride.
If you want damping adjustment just get the SS-S. I like that Tein uses Tein damper, while Tanabe uses KYB damper/outsourced.

Yeah with springs and shocks.. you just dont get the satisfied drop you want. i mean it is cheaper in the short run i guess after your current shock runs out then go get the koni yellows in a year or so which will probably add up to the tein basics price lol.. With coilovers you can always get a satisfied drop

I had basic before and they were pretty bumpy... for my daily. In other hand I road in my friend's car. Using the Tanabe Pro S0c... And it felt more comfortable and gave it more DD-ability.

A lot depends on how much you lower the Basic coilovers. They are not like the Flex where ride height and ride quality are independent adjustments.
With the Basic the lower you set the ride height the worst the ride quality will be. So if you want to lower in the 1.5" to 0.5" range these should work very well.
I drove a boosted RX8 with Basics and RPF1 275/35 all around. It rode very nicely.
If you are interested in the Basics I have one set I'll let go for UNDER $700.00.

i ride with basics dropped as low as it will go without letting the springs hang loose. it rides great.
you might think about the flex with the in car ride height adjuster (i think this is offered?) if you plan on raising and lowering very often. it isn't the easiest thing raising the basics with that damn little tool they give you.

Actually the EDFC is to adjust the stiffness, not the ride height.
The Basic does not have damping/stiffness adjustments.
It's like getting Tokico HP's and Ground Control coilovers, but integrated so valved accordingly.
