enkei rpf1. yes compared to stock. yes i know that it will lighter, but the wider front tires (225 to 265/275, increase of 2inches) will make the steering "heavier" or make it harder to turn. i was just wondering what you guys have experienced compared to stock, especially when cornering hard (not dangerously) on the street or going through mountain twisties for example.
cheers,

Just depends on the tires you choose. For instance my 255/35/19 tires are lighter than the Bridgestone RE40 225/45/18 that came with the car.

can you run 255 on the 9.5 inch wide rim without excessive stretching?

hmm i don't think my question is being interpreted correctly, wouldnt the additional tyre contact at the front due to the larger (in size, not particularly weight) make steering/cornering harder/less direct?

You will have more rolling resistance, but it's not really that noticible. I've run the 275's and I think they are overkill and the extra width does take away some steering feel. I much prefer the 265/35-18 because of the shorter sidewall. They have all the grip you would ever need on the street, don't look stretched and give you a little better acceleration. On average they weigh a little less than the 275's also.

275s tramline. Sometimes violently, but I think you would get this with any wider tire that add leverage around the point that the wheels turn. With the wrong offset (on the wheel) 235s would tramline.

I disagree that 275s are overkill. In my opinion 285s are overkill.

Let me rephrase my statement. 275's are overkill for a NA RX-8, for a boosted RX-8 like yours carbonRX8 they are fine and quite possibly necessary.

I'm running 255/40/18 T1R's and they fit almost square on my 9.5's. They are the same overall diameter as stock unlike 265/35's.

Here is the 255/40 next to a 275/35, both on 9.5" wheels:

Off topic, but -

So that's what it's called? After I put the 275s on my car, I definitely noticed that my car does this on some of the crappier roads. I just didn't know the technical term for it. I imagine when I get new tires and I go to 265s instead of 275s, and get a tire that's more of a street tire than the Azneni rt615s I have on it now, it would reduce this.

Good article off tirerack on tramlining - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=47

Not an Rx8, but a close relation!
As an ex-Rx8 driver I thought I'd post my baby with her new shoes.

- RPF1 17x8 +45, Michelin PP2 225x45x17.
- Eibach pro kit
- Whiteline front and rear sway bars.

That looks good, but I think your car needs some more color. What are the dimensions of the stock MX5 wheels/tires?

I mean everything is the same shade of silver. Most things look better with some contrast, but it is your car. edit: What is the offset on the stock rims?

Looks great to me. I love Enkei RPF1 wheels. I would still have the 18x7.5" ones on my Mazda3 if it weren't for the fact that I kept bending them on these crappy Michigan roads. I would love a set of the black ones for my RX-8.

OK. I finally have my GTC01 wheels on. I'll add more pics soon, but I am about to get my Racing Brake rotors/pads installed so I will be doing that before my next photoshoot, haha. Tell me what you all think!

Edit: See my other post to see a simple "evolution" as I like to call it of my car: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/pics-evolution-rx-8-amateur-owner-173542/

And further, can you run 255x40x18's, stock suspension height and no fender roll, on 9.5's without rubbing?

That depends on offset. If you are referring to his wheels (unsure on the exact specs), then I'm almost certain you can.
