DSC in Winter Conditions

Anyone from cold weather environ. and know from experience how well an RX8 with DSC, and integrated Traction Control, handle in snow/ice/slick roads and highways?? I'm concerned since I may end up buying one soon at the local dealer, and it's still snowing season.

As a owner of a base model, who has driven DSC 8's, i don't think it is overated at all. It's a great safety device for the new and experienced driver alike. I driven sports cars for 35 years so i learn the cars limits before i go crazy, but the DSC is a nice feeling if you want to test the limits without testing your driving limits.

It would be interesting to see what people have experienced with or without DSC and the various stock tires.
I personally have Potenzas as my stock tires. I know that other Canadians have the Dunlops.

The DSC is lovely in the snow with good snow tires. Really helps in uphill starts and icy surface starts.

I've been experimenting with the DSC/TC system in our recent snowstorms. I haven't noticed any benefit of the TC starting in slippery conditions. The TC doesn't kick in until I get significant wheelspin... well beyond the point my foot instinctively modulates it anyway. Same with the DSC - you can get it somewhat sideways before it ends the fun.

The TC is so forgiving, it seems almost pointless to me. It doesn't help me get traction, nor does it prevent me from spinning out. The DSC however, I feel is a fantastic safety net - not for sporty driving, but rather for things like snow, people cutting you off, etc. I can learn to control wheelspin, but I can't brake one side of the car no matter how hard I try, lol...

Overall, I've found the car to be wonderful in the snow. I've gone through a number of snowstorms now without any problems. In fact, it's kinda fun

The only problem I have is in deep slush, when the car seems to float rather than dig in. I'm using stock-width snow tires though, which is probably the problem. Otherwise, when I see an empty, snow-covered (packed) road ahead of me now... I can't help but smile

So I guess we concluded that DSC is not overrated, and can help a great deal in bad weather situations. We also agree that for a moron who thinks DSC means I CAN GO FASTER IN BAD WEATHER AND IT WILL SAVE ME EVERYTIME, it is overrated.

Coming back home from a gig one night the dsc could have saved my ***. It was raining and I tried to beat a yellow light on an empty street. Big mistake. Down shifted to second from fourth, and the back-end said "**** it!" I fish-tailed to the left tried to correct, then over corrected it to the right and flew into a sidewalk at about 40 mph, sideways. My rims got a little scuffed and the right rear tire flattened on me. Had to drive about a mile an hour till I got home shaking. I've learned my lesson about the 8 in the rain, especially without the dsc. Maybe I'm just a shitty driver, who knows.

I've only had my RX8 for about a month now, I don't have DSC, maybe I should have gotten it, so far I've had 0 problems, but then again I'm not really an agressive driver.
