All Season Tires?

I'm thinking of purchasing a 2006 RX8 and wanted to know if I could buy All Season tires? I want to use the car all year round. I live in Philly and we get some snow. I will not be driving in more than a couple of inches or if I get caught in some snow. What are some of your experiences with this?

Thanks

i got a set of these, they're working great so far, even pretty well in more than a couple inches of snow.

I'm one of many people who consider all-season tires to be "no-season tires". This is particularly true for sporty cars. To illustrate, here's a list of things you'd like to have in an ideal, sporty tire for the summer:

As wide as possible
Maintains grip at high temperatures
Stiff sidewalls for good handling
Large, stiff blocks on the tread with minimal space between - just enough to channel water away from the contact patch.

On the other hand, for the ideal winter tire

As narrow as possible
Maintains grip at low temperatures
Soft sidewalls to allow the tire to conform to uneven surface for maximum traction
Large spaces between blocks to allow space for snow.

Based on this, I always strongly recommend seperate winter/summer tires, preferably on two sets of rims.

As another data point, I'm using 225 wide winter tires, and the car does not do well in deep snow. I wouldn't even want to try it on 225 wide all-seasons.

Living in Philadelphia myself, I have separate winter/summer tires, but in an all season, I like th Kumho Ecsta. I put them on my Mother in law's AMG Merc and they run very nicely in snow and summer, and they're pretty cheap.

Whatever you do, know that the summer only tires on your car will not run in winter in any snow or ice and even on dry roads the grip is bad.

All the best and enjoy the 8! I have found it to be a good winter car even in very deep snow with winter tires, and I don't even have traction control.

I've got the Pirellii PZero Nero M+S tires - got them from Tire Rack for about $640 delivered to my house in the Chicago area. Another $100 for mount and balance ...

I love them - they are quieter than the stock rubber, stick just as well according to my "butt o meter", and they definitely give the car decent traction in snow, especially with the DSC working.

That said, if I had a serious commute (I don't - in fact I have none - I work from my house), and lived in an area where they weren't fanatical about snow and ice removal (they are that way here in Chicago where elections are won and lost on performance of snow removal), I'd probably go with 100% snows in the winter. The car is decent enough in the snow with the PZeros but I sure wouldn't call it great by any stretch - most of the folks with the full-snow tire treamemt say the car out performs sport utes in snow.

I live near StewC625 and I independantly got the same tires. I only use them during the cold months. For the warmer months, I move back to the summer tires (Falken's).

That's good to know that I can have all season tires that I can use all year long and not have to switch out tires for summer & winter.

Thanks
