05 rx8 - 20 inch wheels ok?
I would like to replace my stock wheels with custom 20 inch wheels with low profile tires.
I understand there may be performance issues with the rx8. Is that true?
Will 20" wheels even fit the rx8?

you know what's better than 20's???
Starting two threads on the same topic...

Edit: We all get it, your going too make a show car and the Rx-8 is a nice candidate. Filling this forum with threads over your indecisions of looks vs. performance is something too be thought about after you have the money for it...
And your last statement on the first post shows your not searching.

20's will fit but you'll have a problem finding rear tires if you want to go staggered since very few tire companies make rear tires in a 25 aspect ration but it will make your car taller than stock. If you want to go for it then more power to you but I wouldn't go larger than 19s simply because of tire and wheel choices.
Performancewise there will be a disadvantage because many 20" wheels are extremely heavy and you'll notice an increase in 0-60 time as well as handling. Also, if you're OD of the wheel/tire is larger than stock you car will be geared higher so you'll also lose some acceleration.

I didnt know that it was hard to find tires for that size. I didnt read that in my search results on this topic at all.
Regarding making the car taller than stock, 2 things, I can lower the car and the body kit will give it a lower appearance as well.\
But wont the height be offset by the low profile tires?
Anyone else?

The only tire size in 20 that is remotely similar to stock is a 245/30/20 which will put you at 3mm smaller than stock. Lowering springs will help as well as the bodykit but it still depends on how low you want to go. If you want to have a wider tire in the rear the only sizes that could fit a 9.5" or 10" wide wheel would be a 275 or 285 width in tires. Those tires are pretty much only available down to a 30 aspect ratio which leaves you with a tire that's about an inch taller than stock which will make your rx8 look like a bit of a monster truck for a little while.
Again, what you do to your car is completely up to you, all I'm here to do is to give you some info in regard to fitment for wheels. I've included this link which can take you to a page where you can "play" with various tire sizes which can allow you to see what sizes you are willing to go with. Just input your stock size which should be 225/45/18 and go from there.

The pic below is my car with 19x8.5 front with a 19x9.5 rear to give you an idea of what it looks like. My car has also been lowered with coilovers so that is at least a good starting point since your prospective wheels will be an inch larger still.
