Turbo 8 first start up and won't idle
you said your water temp was always about 190 degrees. How are you measuring it, oe sensor or rb?
typical rb sensor placement requires you add about 10-20 degrees to get the temp coming out of the engine.

I have a feeling its dead also. I'm going to get the compression checked and go from there.

Well the results are in, rotor one has no compression. The plan now is to put it in storage and tear it apart this summer when I get some free time. I will be sending the shortblock out to be rebuilt and will hopefully have it back in the car at the end of summer/ early fall. I am planning to try the turbo setup again but will be going about the tuning a bit differently. Thanks for the help guys, I'll see you all in a few months.

suggest aftermarket apex seals for your build if you are planning on staying turbo. Dowels are a good idea as well ....

So turns out I had what seems to be an oil starvation issue, this is what my rebuilder had to say.
"It looks to me like you've had an oil starvation issue. The front main bearing was wiped out, which is the first to run dry in a low oil situation. It subsequently sent material into the front rotor bearing and chewed it up, and of course the shaft journals are bad as well. The rotor bearing allowed the rotor to have extra play which caused the rotor to rub the iron faces of the front and middle iron."
Anyways I should have the engine back and in the car within the next month or so if things go according to schedule ( like usual
). Will start a new thread during that time.

Never got around to making a new thread, I have made progress on the car however. At this point I have made a few changes to the setup but nothing drastic. I got the new engine in the car along with the turbo setup, just a few minor things to button up before it is totally ready. The plan is to fire it up while I'm home for thanksgiving break. I will probably start a new thread then.

Figured I'd try it. The one I had before was pretty beat up and I got this for a steal so why not. I like the fact that it won't be blocking the rad and that it will be less visible than a vertical mounted one once the bumper is on. My plan is to eventually make aluminum ducting for it to better direct airflow.
how do you feel it would work on track days scott? I've been trying to figure out a way to combat coolant temps and I bet with a front mount sticking out there it wouldn't make things any better. I guess some testing would be in order
Well it's more about the sum of parts than just that. With Good fans, good rad, tstat, water pump, ducting, etc. it may work okay. Not ideal though. Ideally a proper v mount with ducting and a sum of good parts is the way to go.
Well I don't really plan on tracking the car hard, just a few track days each summer at the most so I don't think its really going to be an issue. The plan is to run it with no under tray and aluminum ducting to direct the incoming air. I guess we will see how well it works ( or doesn't) when the time comes.

Yeah I guess if you duct it, and have air exit under the car it would work to pass thru the intercooler, but I would think that would have a negative effect on the aero at high speeds. JETS3T8's car was/is not a track car AFAIK.
Yeah I could see how it would negatively effect aero. But this isn't a big area of concern for me as I won't be driving at high speeds for extended periods of time . Theres different pros and cons for each setup, I guess I'm doing what I think will best suit my needs.
Have you thought of running a smaller intercooler and angling it? The one you have is huge and likely not a quality unit. You could even add an intercooler sprayer as well.
Actually I take that back, the SFR kit actually uses a quality Bell intercooler.

Yours does not appear to be the intercooler that comes with the SFR kit, it looks like the cheap Ebay ones that come in kits like the Hymee, etc.

I have tossed around the idea of an intercooler sprayer but thats something I will look in to further once I get the car running properly. Also trying to angle the intercooler down more to get better flow is hard because its already very low to the ground as is. I do think it is possible however I just need to spend some time on it.
On another note, I will hopefully be going down to storage to fire it up tonight if all goes according to plan.

That looks like alot of fuel. double check your injector wiring and placement. also make sure your ESS sensor is clean and not bent out of place. Did you do the 20 pedal stomp before start up? I have also seen many of these issues do to small vacuum leaks.
