I have been using the RP fluid since 5K miles, I have 32K miles on the car now and never had any issues.

next time Im going to try the Redline stuff, not that RP gave me any problems, its just that I wanna try something new.

This stuff is HEAVY, and I think the RP maxgear is hey to light for our rpm range (and heat for that matter.)

One detail i noticed is it does take longer to get to the normal heat operation, so the trans is slightly harder of a shift at first, but disappears after only a min or two. I will have to see if this is only a "bandaid" for a more serious trans problem or that simply my trans does not like light oil.

But for now I recommend this for anyone with grinds that has RP in their trans at the moment.

Other notes: I did not flush the trans, just drained the RP, then pumped in the Redline shockproof heavy. Also i have the stock shifter and no other driveline mods, stock clutch, flywheel, etc.

Hmmmmm.....intersting. Thanks for the update!

Pretty soon after I bought my car I started getting grinds shifting 1-2 and a crunchy 2-3 shift but only when the trans oil was cold. I tried RP 75w90 max gear as some people said it helped with their cold shifts and so I changed the fluid at 5000mi . If anything it got a little worse at first but after running it for another 2000+mi it's been much better than it was with oem fluid but still not perfect. I take it real easy until it's warmed up but I'm hoping I'm not on a slow road to a new tranny.

I wonder if the RP just makes inevitable problems more noticeable.

Whats a normal amount of filings on the magnetic plug when changing fluid on a new tranny with 5000mi?

I run the specified Kaaz fluid, bad thing is you have to swap it out again following the break-in so you need to order two of the 2L cans when you buy the diff (or sometimes one is included with the LSD depending on where you purchase it)

ERRR! After 5ooo miles or so or RP Max Gear, I now have a grinding 1-2nd and downshift to 2nd gear grinding. The car is an 04 and has 58k on it... I had redline MTL 90 in it with great results and now suddenly this! I will be switching back to the Redline MTL90 and bleed the slave cylinder to see If that helps. I never got a good result after the switch and it just seemed to decline to where I am now.

I've had RL lightweight shockproof in for 6 months now . Found it way better than the redline mt90 for shifting smoothness.
However one day at the track I think I overheated it because my shifting became very stiff towards the end of a session . Now my trany sometimes makes an unusual noise when I take off under load in 1st .

Thanks mr obvious, but if there is air in the line for whatever reason, the clutch will not fully disengage. It is always a good idea to start simple:
1 Fluid change
2 bleed slave cylinder
(once your sure it is working at max "throw")
3 adjust plunger

especially important if you have an aftermarket clutch - so I have discovered

I've gone back to Redline 75W140NS for max durability

for Redline Shockproof I would strongly not recommend using anything other than the Heavy version and only for racing, Lightweight Shockproof is asking for a transmission failure ...

Has anyone tried blending Redline 75W90NS with 75W140NS like olddragger did for Royal Purple? I might be trying that route. I'm also curious about BG Synchroshift II, but I have a supplier that sells me Redline gear oil at $4.50 a quart.

I don't really see the point, but you can do it no problem. Use a bottle of one followed by a bottle of the other. It will just end up near 75W115NS ....

We can never have enough data points. How is the shift quality with the 75W140? One of the things I like about the MT90 is that it's really smooth after the transmission is fully warmed up, but that takes something like 20 minutes of driving to accomplish. I'm wondering if going to a 75W140 will produce a harder shift that is less enjoyable. However, for the MT90, when it's cold I completely baby the 1-2 shift, to the irritation of those driving behind me.

Funny enough when I put in the Royal Purple MaxGear it was fine at the beginning even when cold, but the shift quality started to deteriorate from the 5,000 mile point onwards. MT90 shifts have been kind of unhappy when cold from day 1.

Kind of bumping an old thread rather than a new one. I recently went with MT90 in my trans and immediately noticed my 5th gear grinds now. It's a very short syncro grind when going into 5th from any gear.. sounds kind of like a fart and I can obviously feel it through the shifter.

I've never had any grinding issues previously and don't know why 5th is doing this. I'm considering going back to stock trans fluid. Suggestions? I've probably put about 50 miles on the car since the trans fluid swap.

If it grinds I would change fluids immediately, something is obviously wrong and the only factor that changed was the fluid.

On another note, i've put about 10k on the car since I started this thread and I'm happy to say that there has not been a single grind or faulty shift since. I do not driving it daily, and still worry that i may still have trans trouble in the future, but for the time being I could not be happier with its performance.

I have RP and I have grinds when its cold, I mean cold cold, not just because I never move my car.

after it warms up it shifts fine.

but lately I have some gear whine that sound like *BOV* when I go shift @ anything faster than 30 or 35 mph. I got a few bottles of MT-90 and gonna try it soon.

I put the MT-90 back in this morning and after 20 minutes, all my 2nd gear grinding is gone. Royal Purple just didn't agree with my trans.

IMO Redline MT-90 is OK when warm, not so great when cold

my preference for a daily street driven car is still Redline 75W140NS

Now logic says my trans doesn't like the RP as it wasn't grinding at all before the fluid swap. I ordered 2 quarts of redline shockproof "heavy" which will arrive next week. I'm going to first swap the trans fluid then hit the highway and city to see the results, and will test all the situations above that I mentioned. If grinding is still present i'm going to adjust the plunger rod a couple times and retest.

Finally if grinding still is present off to the dealer for a trans inspection.

I would like to ask you for how many miles you have used the heavy shockproof and if you had any other problems? How often do you change this fluid?
