Time for a rebuild?

Cold starts like a beauty, barley have to turn the key. Hot starts like crap, I知 left cranking for 30 seconds before she will fire up.
Daily driving runs great, still pulls hard. Take her to the track after 3 or 4 laps I知 just pouring out smoke, LIKE POURING OUT SMOKE and she痴 falling on her face and drinking the oil up. Then she will drive home fine.

2004 6-speed 67,000clicks

Always: 94 octane ethanol free, Idemitsu 10w-30 Rotary Engine Oil, Idemitsu Racing Rotary Fuel Lube (Premix)

Stock other then these new mods:

AEM cold air intake
RacingBeat Header
RacingBeat Cat Delete Midpipe
Agency Power titanium cat-back
New NGK Mazda IG Coil痴
New NGK wires
New NGK plugs

No tune or remap since mods, I just cleared/reset the NVRAM /KAM/ PCM

Your starter is probably going bad, early 04 & 05's came with weak starters.

Also maybe potential oil seal going bad? Our coolant jacket. Compression test wouldn't be a bad idea either...

White smoke is usually a sign of coolant being burnt, and bluish smoke being oil. Considering premix it could add to the smoke, but not too much.

A bad starter would leave him with terrible cold starts too.

I'd say yes, time for a compression test to confirm the diagnosis.

We aren’t talking about a little smoke, I’m talking about a massive smoke screen when driven hard.
But still runs great and pulls hard daily driving her, or I can drive her hard if I keep it below 7,000rpm.
I’m finding a gassy smelling oil on my new air filter as well.

Do you ever overfill the oil? I always had good cold starts, but bad hot starts when I first got my '04, but my upgraded starter fixed all that.

No, I致e mastered reading my dipstick, and knowing how much to pour in, I always keep it an 1/8 of an inch below the top line. I have noticed oil in that vent line you池e talking about, some say this is also sings of a rebuild needed.

Also a starter isn稚 going to fix my high rpm smoke screen, its something more than that.

Most likely an oil control ring is packed with carbon and is stuck in a compressed position allowing oil to seep through when pressures rise.

Another thing you could try is hooking up a catch can and seeing what frothy goodness your engine is spitting out.

Yeah it's the fricken oil control rings, gaaaay. Well might as well re-build her right, who makes the best rebuild kit? Ceramic apex seals or carbon? Think I might do bridge port or something nasty too

LOL

You said and I quote, "bridge port or something nasty too"...

He was replying in kind with a bit of sarcasm, most likely due to the obvious lack of knowledge you have about the renesis engine.

Say what?

And no, I don't run a welding truck. But I have dreamed of running a welding truck my whole life.

Yes, you can do whatever you want to your Rx-8.

You make $138/hr and buy an RX8? That doesn't add up. Why wouldn't you buy a real car? Honestly I love my 8 but if made that kinda dough I would be driving something with a lot more power and refinement.

Lets cut the bullshit out and get back to the basics.

I'm only going to tell you this once as I have posted this before in other threads and found that the OP didn't actually want any advice.

Get your specialty tools here:

Pineapple Racing - Tools & Equipment

Get your rebuild kit here:

04-11 Rx8 Manual Master Rebuild Kit

Select OEM everything and add the cut off seal and cut off seal spring.

Get your porting template here:

RX8: Engine - Porting Tools: Porting Template - Renesis S-Port -

No gains have been found with a bridge port, minimal gains have been found with a street port. you can open up the ports a bit more than the RB template calls for.

Thats all you need to know get back to us once its rebuilt.

A compression test most likely will not pick up on a failing oil control ring.

It's funny that you mentioned Atkins Rotary, that痴 exactly who I already ordered from, I ordered "Kit C" though with cutoff seals and springs and without apex seals. Then the Ianetti ceramic apex seal set of 6 from mazdatrix. And streetporting and resurfacing from pettit when the time comes.
