That totally sucks. I ordered mine last Tuesday and it was in and fixed yesterday afternoon.

I should have taken a picture of the before. It had about 2 inches in it, no joke.

gonnahanvan8 12-13-2005 02:35 PM

Mine is a Shinka. I think it has a different light assembly. Wonder if that's the hold up?

MazdaManiac 12-13-2005 03:10 PM

Shinka has the same lights as all of the other RX-8s.
This is absolutely a warranty issue.
I just had both of mine replaced (one in October and the other last week) and the service writer didn't even flinch. Showed him the condensation and in went the new assemblies.
Now, I was particularly fortunate that my dealer had them on hand. Typically, it is about 3 to 10 days to get them.
Mine took 30 minutes from the time I pulled up until the time I was driving away.

Toni's Toy 12-13-2005 11:43 PM

me too!

Same thing water in my tail light on the drivers side. Been replace twice!

Some models had clearence problems between the trunk lid and tail light housing causing the housing to crack if the trunk lid is shut hard. I believe there's a TSB for it.

Sendo 12-23-2005 06:31 PM

i actually have a spider in my passenger side one.. will the dealership replace this for me?

moyica 12-30-2005 04:03 PM

I have told my dealership on three occassions about my passenger side tail light. They said that mazda will not send out anymore taillights. "They are redesigning"
they say. Sounds like the same thing they keep telling me about my squiking brakes. This is BS. So I called mazda customer service (national #) and complained. Get this, they siad they didnt know about these problems. I am pulling my hair. They had the dealership call me to address the problem further. So the guy called and gave me another line of crap but said he wanted me to go there so he can talk to me in person. This is alot of crap if you ask me. They sould have been right on these problems. What the hell are the doing overthere in Japan. What next.

Boy, it is so deep you need super large hip boots. Yes, Mazda USA knows about the taillight fogging and squeeking brakes ... they issued a TSB on the brake issue and have been delivering up replacement light fixtures for 12-18 months. Check it out in the TSB sticky and in the above posts. Dealers throughout the country have been successfully fixing the problems for some time. As far as I know both fixes work as I don't recall anyone posting that they had problems after their warranty repairs were done.

The Service writer explained to me that the tails will be replaced only if there is a "significant" amount of moisture in the housing.

Had my driver side replaced yesterday.
Gonna give it a high pressure spray wash in a minute...

Apparently this qualified as "significant". :wink2:

I agree with msrecant. Print out the TSB and take it with you to the dealership.... the tail light should be changed under warranty.

moyica 01-04-2006 08:01 PM

I went and spoke with the service manager at my dealership. We went for a little road trip and the brakes didn't squeek for him. He still believed me that the brakes sqeek. So after him speaking with mazda direct he is going to get me a new tail light and totally take the front brake system apart and see what can be improved or if there were any inperfections. I sure hope this does it. They have been jurking my chain for too long.

newcastle 01-05-2006 02:17 PM

Noticed condensation in the passenger tail light a few days ago. I will wait for it to build up again and take it to the dealer.

Moonrover333 01-06-2006 12:19 PM

ok well i have water in my driverside tailight and its extremely damp in the trunk any ideas on this?

Dagious 01-07-2006 04:02 PM

Man, this stinks. I've had my car only 2 months and Noticed quite a bit in the drivers side and a small amount on the passenger side. Also the brakes are squealing like hell. the bad thing is that my car falls after both VIN numbers on the TSB.....

msrecant 01-07-2006 09:21 PM

Condensation in the lights is not VIN limited, just like there is not VIN limit on doors falling off. You dealer should fix it as a warranty issue because its broken.

In terms of the brake squeal, it never hurts to complain. Just say they are making a lot of noise and request that they be looked at. If the squeal is consistent and loud, the dealer will usually replace the pads at least once.

Good luck!

Mine's will be replaced under warranty. No fuzz, no buzz. I just called them, setup an appointment, they saw it, part has been ordered, will call once they arrive.

Darklighter 01-15-2006 08:57 PM

I had condensation in both tail lights and the dealer is going to be replacing them under warranty.

moyica 01-16-2006 06:59 PM

Took my car in today and they worked and fixed everything. I am pleased at the moment but am still aprehensive. I hope the new taillight holds up. Also I realized my driver side door sounded like something was loose in there so I brought it up at the dealer and they said after that there were bolts in there that werent tightened by the factory. WOW bolts not fasened, I thought foriegn cars were built better than that. I am very happy at the moment though. :)

I AM THE RED WORM 01-17-2006 11:50 PM

took mine to the dealer and got them replaced. they gave me a loaner too...

carbonRX8 02-01-2006 12:14 AM

My passenger side has condensation like that. The dealer in Rochester ordered the replacement housing based on my phone call. Now I just need to schedule the trip.

G0t m4xx 21 02-02-2006 11:57 PM

I occasioanlly get some condensation like that, it dries out by the afternoon though, so i never really though much of it.

However, with some of the audio work i've been doing in the car, I noticed that the rear tail lights rattle really bad. It's the actual outer housing, pressing my hand on it makes the rattle stop. Also I'm getting some rattle in the back seat area, it almost sounds like the rear window itself is rattling, it has that rattling glass kinda sound.

NMOcho 02-04-2006 11:05 AM

I have had both my tail lights replaced under warranty. Dealer gave me no problems. I just took a picture of both of them via my camera phone and showed the dealer. That's my biggest complaint about the 8 is my plastic parts just keep breaking and rattling.

Iceis8 02-04-2006 12:31 PM

I have had standing water in both of mine now. First one was fixed 4 months ago second one is being done now. Didn't have any problem getting dealer to do the work.

Off Topic Info: Always look here -> http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ins_index.html for TSBs where you'll find this -> http://www.finishlineperformance.com...1-04-1331a.pdf g'luck! BTW, my Aug '03 build just turned 70k, but hasn't had the rear window problem. Most other TSBs applied under warrantee. Also off topic, I got a chance to try a serious burnout for the 1st time in this car, last night. Blip throttled 5.5k-6.5k and feather/dropped clutch, with no clutch slip or clutch disk smell. Stripped off > 30 yards of tire, shifting at 9.5 k, no fuss, no muss! This is one great car to give that kind of confidence. :mdrmed: This is the strongest so far of my past 3 rotaries, all which exceeded 230k before needing a rebuild. (Actually, the 1st one, '84 SGL-SE, crashed in accident at 256K, still running like it would go at least twice that far. The 2nd, a used '87 GXL bought at 50k, was about the same at 244k, but I let my brother borrow it and he blew the engine. The 3rd was a used '87 GS and the never really strong motor gave up at 238k.) Ok, back on topic! - Gary SoCali

RedSheDevil 02-04-2006 01:46 PM

Sorry if this is a repost (didnt read through the whole thread) but for those who have rattling etc. from the tail light/trunk area there is a TSB about "trunk interference". Seems certain parts of the trunk rub against the tops of the tail lights. Good illustration to show you where to look to see if your car is affected ...

The fix is a clear sticker that the dealer puts on ...

this is absolutely NOT true, I just got my car from my local Mazda dealer for the same problem in the driver side only and they replace the tail light with no questions ASK.

atlbaby 02-06-2006 09:08 PM

I have had three tail light total, all of them had condensation in them bad...every time i just rolled up to the local dealer and they would take it back and put in a new light no questions asked.....

Slideways 02-08-2006 03:25 PM

Just took mine in today. Passenger side was just full of heavy condensation. They are replacing without any questions. Needed to order a light so I have to take it back. I was just there to get my starter replaced less than a month ago!

Raptor2k 02-28-2006 06:35 PM

How long did it take you guys for them to fix your taillights? I got some condensation in one of mine, and I'd like to know how much time I'd need to spend at the dealership...

caribbean_spice_boy_73 03-01-2006 10:02 AM

Well off to the dealer I go.. I got up this morning I saw my driver sade tail light with water in it..Hmmm too may complaints in here mazda need to get on top of this...

icyur2 03-01-2006 12:59 PM

Just got both of mine replaced, because both were having the issue. Took 2.5 hrs..although, the service tech told me it would be a 30-45 min. job. didn't want to wait that long and had them drive me back to work, and sure enough, 2 hrs. later, they called. Don't know if it was because I turned down on waiting for the job to be completed, but whatever..I got mine fix and will keep an eye on both of them....

caribbean_spice_boy_73 03-01-2006 01:01 PM

nice icyur2 well I am off friday to get mine done.. I reverse park my car so i dont' see it.. ha ha

Passenger Side

I have the same problem...but everyone is saying there drivers side rear light, mines got 1 in of water in the pass, side

Do you think washing the car, and slaming it with the hose, (not intentionally of course) would effect it..?

nah I don't think so, but I have not been to the dealership yet. so busy with work..

AirlockRX 03-29-2006 10:18 PM

The service writer says that MNAO suspects weakening in the housing creases due to aggressive removal of the plastic "shipping skin" during dealer prep.

Since being replaced (driver side), no problems.

Passenger side here too. It's not just you.

Former A4'er 03-30-2006 04:50 PM

I have had both replaced at different times now I need the passenger side replaced again. I hope Mazda still covers this under warranty.

MPG > HP 03-30-2006 10:43 PM

Had both lenses corrected at 45k. Just turned 75k and condensation is starting to show up, again, on the right rear. Way out of warrantee, so I guess I'll just look the other way! Car still runs like a champ and is soooo fun to wheel around!!! - Gary SoCali

Woot! 75k miles and still running strong or are you reporting km? You should take that number to the 'Who has the highest mileage RX-8' thread.

It's worth asking about if you have a cordial relation with your service advisor. Mine replaced my right side headlight assembly (HID!) a second time after I was out of warranty.

Huey52 05-16-2006 06:25 AM

Same here, driver's side tailight condensation. But at least no home damage from the tumultuous rain here in the Northeast.

tjbourgoyne 05-16-2006 06:41 AM

passenger side condensation. replaced under warranty.
